Good afternoon, I would like some insight on which vehicle is the better choice: A Maverick or a Ranger?

I am just looking for something that is fuel efficient but can handle towing a boat. (I will purchase one within the following year)

I initially wanted a Lariat Maverick + the 1st edition & lux package but noticed it was FWD only. So if I move forward, I would need to switch to the 4WD + Eco boost +4k package. At that price point, would it be better to just grab a ranger? (Or drop down to a XLT maverick with all the upgrades)

I don't need a truck outside of the boat towing in South Louisiana....I will also use it for my Hobie outback from time to time though. I am replacing a 2010 Ford Escape.

Just my 2 cents: Depending on how heavy the boat is, you may not be able to use either the Mav or Ranger. If equal or less than 1500 lbs, the Lariat Hybrid would give you great fuel economy. Also, I hear the Mav has better interior room than the current Ranger (we will see if that changes when the new generation Ranger comes out).

Just sayin' ........ don't look for the Mav Hybrid to be an AWD any time soon without some modification and increase in pricing (which is counter productive on why the Mav was created: DIYers).

I'd wait for now unless you really need it now.

If the Escape had enough power to haul your boat, the Maverick should work just fine. They are similar in many ways.

But if you want more towing capacity, higher clearance, and a bigger truck, then the Ranger is a better choice.

I bought a Maverick because I like its smaller size, fuel efficiency, and price. It also hauls my bikes, little sailboat, and misc. junk like a champ.

My build is Maverick XL Ecoboost AWD (4WD not available) + 4K tow package and Total Base cost with options is $25540 including $1495 Destination & Delivery fee. I think when I built similar equipped Ranger using on line build & price tool it was at least $2k higher, but the destination fee is a couple hundred less.

My suggestion is use build & price tool for a practice build of both trucks. Then try to actually test DRIVE both trucks. They each have their pros & cons, but see which 1 is the best fit for you. Chances are extremely slim you will not be able to "just grab" either truck off a dealer lot, so pay attention to when order banks open and close bc you will be needing to custom order either 1. Also fyi, 2023 Ranger is a close out end of cycle truck with a new version due to go into production maybe Summer 2023 for the MY2024 truck.

Yeah it all depends on your boat vs your wallet. Save 7k on a Maverick and have money for a bigger boat and need a Ranger or get a Ranger and only have enough money for a boat you dont need to tow? Its a predicament. I think you gotta put boat money(or goal of boat money) aside look at boat prices and add 10% just to start the whole "hole in the water you throw money into" process. Then let the Ford spec sheet decide which truck you are going to buy. Its really your only option unless you just got like crazy money. Then just go buy a new Hummer they look just like the old amphibious Argo 6x6s(im sure they float too :ROFLMAO: )then you are set both ways. Also can I borrow $44,000 dolllars, I need to buy me a Ranger Tremor.

One more thought. Boats have rediculously poor gas mileage, you might need to buy a Maverick to offset that.

If towing a big boat is the task you need a ranger with the tow package. So it depends on how heavy the boat and trailer is. If the total is going to be 4k lbs or less the maverick is good to go. Otherwise go ranger. Also if you are going to tow close to the limit very frequently you may want to consider the ranger.

I plan on purchasing an Alweld aluminum boat, which is about 1100 or so pounds before all the extra add ons and the motor. I estimate maybe 1600 or 1700 max weight... So i figured the Mav with the 4k package would be enough... I do want the 360 ford, which the ranger doesnt have.

Wait - what , You can't get 360 with the Ranger ? Love the 360 - All drivers in Utah strive to be in someone's blind spot. Ridiculous -)
