So the dealership called me today and said, they forgot to get a $100 deposit from my GF and I. My response... "Well we are not $100 sure we want them" ๐Ÿ˜€ lol The dealer kind of choked up for a second, then came back and said, don't worry about it. We will call you when they come in. I told him, cool thanks. We will come down and maybe discuss it some more. Plus maybe a test drive...
As I've said, their is a lot I really like about the Maverick, but with my circumstances, it's probably not a smart thing for me to do.
I still think my GF should get hers, but I can't pressure her at all either, in case anything hits the fan later...
I think she got a little upset with me, and said I was kind of a smartass with the dealer. Dealers are just so money hungry. I like to watch them squirm ๐Ÿ˜€ lol

If they want to change the deal midstream, run away @Dealerinsider at Chapman Ford, PA will take care of you (as will our other 2, but I went with Tom at Chaman and a local CD. Best deal, I think best sales team.

Always a great place to negotiate because you do not need it, and it gives you leverage.

I believe ordering and waiting a few months could be the new normal process for getting the best deals for new cars. People that NEED a new car that day, will likely pay more. Supply vs demand.

Well they just asked... But they quickly changed their mind, and said not to worry about it.
If I were totally gung ho about getting one, sure I'd give them $100. Heck, $500. I'm just about 95% sure I'm not getting mine anyway. I give my GF a 50% Although like I say, I think it's a great vehicle for her. Hoping she gets it. I think she should but it, and just let me drive it ๐Ÿ˜€ lol What the hey, I let her drive my F150 !

Buying a car on the other side of the country would defeat any cost savings getting it back to California. It's a shame there's not a dealer on the west coast offering a similar deal with great service.

That is what a courtesy dealer is for. I paid an extra $200 for delivery to a dealer. 45 miles from my home.
if looking for a CD is bothersome to you (calling the leasing officers and asking if they will do a coutrtesy delivery and what is the fee, then @fordvideoguy has a network already set up and they will find the closest one to you.) I only mention him 2nd as I went with chapman and I think grainger is not doing CDs but all 3 seem to be good guys. My interactions with FordVideoGuy have been positive, but I have only had business dealings with Tom at Chapman Ford PA

I'm talking about the dealers offering 3-4% off. That's a good deal for our side of the country though.

I'll look into it, but I still don't think I would save anything going that route. Moving a car 3,000 miles is going to be more than $200 in my case, guaranteed.

Thats the point of a CD, my truck will not go to PA. It will go to the terminus railhead in Atlanta then be trucked to my CD less than 20 miles away. In your case it would come due north via rail to whatever railhead Ford uses in your region (most likely somewhere in CA) then be trucked to the CD there is no 3000 mile trip involved

sorry i did not make this clear from the outset

Your dogging a dealer for a lousy $100 deposit? Really? That truck is going to come in and they going to sell it to someone else that shows up with cash. I would hardly call a deal greedy for asking for $100. $1000 yes but not a hundo.

I think the issue is more they asked for it after the deal rather than during it. I would have had no issue with a deposit, if that deposit was discosed during.

That makes way more sense, thank you for explaining. I was under the impression it had to be delivered to the dealer first before it was transferred.

Common misconception, one I shared until someone mentioned the CD option instead of taking the train up and back to PA. Before then I had no clue what a courtesy dealer was

No, I'm dogging him, because he's a car dealer, and I'm probably not getting the vehicle anyway.
I remember about 10 years ago, I had a dealer try to switch something up on me during the middle of the deal... And I stood up, and litterally walked out. I only drove a few blocks away and parked, because I expected them to call and apologize. Sure enough, they did. Of course I told them I was sitting in front of another dealer ๐Ÿ˜€ lol Of course I kind of raked them over the coals a little before I came back, and when I did, they didn't try anything else slimy.
Long story short, I just feel like most auto dealers are money hungry snakes. And if you give them any chance, they will squeeze every penny out of you that they can.

Maybe I'm naรฏve but I feel partial to the dealers that have good ratings via Google or Cars.com etc. like 4.5/5 stars or higher. I feel like people have spoken, that that's a fair dealer, and they will probably try to protect that rating because it's likely a big deal to them too.

I'm not sure I would start the buying process from a 3 stars or less dealer even if they had a really great deal. At least, I'd be extra cautious.
