I agree with your girlfriend.
My biggest/not only concern, with doing the ā€œremote Dealerā€ purchase, no deposit, then Courtesy Delivery. Shipped to my CD dealer 600+ miles away from selling dealer and the CD Ford Dealer has very little coin ($200) in the game but if the vehicle has (even a minor) damage, and scheduling $1,000 deposit made prior to manufacturing, and my truck was supposed to have a ā€œsunroomā€ (or Oh No! You forgot my bed liner) but it was lost in paperwork or forgotten by the selling dealer….then where do i go for restitution….Iowa, or to the CD Dealer….this is just one of the unseen risks buying remotely. Such I can not imagine a scenario between the CD DEALER and the SELLING DEALER, with the customer (me) caught in the middle…and a Maverick in limbo With my deposit in limbo.

My experience with Ford Dealers so far has been mystifying. Visited 2 different very large Ford Dealers that had no interest in talking about or taking an order for a Maverick…..even just ordering for future delivery, no interest, that’s when I reached out to the 4% dealer who was willing to quickly receptive to taking an order…..mystifying.

Sunset took the money, which is good cause I liked knowing it's paid off a little more.

I like sunset in Sumner with their Warranty Protection for life and the free oil changes.

Something that might give me reason to reconsider…..
Customer X bought his vehicle at the local dealer. I had mine shipped there. Coincidentally, about a year later, Mr X needs a new widget. At the same time, I need the SAME new widget. There’s only one on the their shelf. The others are on back order…………..
(YOU finish the story)
What's a widget ? Can't I just get one from Amazon, or E-bay ?

I agree, I had that exact issue with steering on a Crown Vic. The car wasn't purchased from the servicing dealer. Yes, I got to wait.

I think the issue is more they asked for it after the deal rather than during it. I would have had no issue with a deposit, if that deposit was discosed during.
I had to put down a 1000. But its 100% refundable and was told up front weeks before i ordered it .

My dealer was up front.
I gave a $500 refundable deposit.
I expect to eventually get my Mav.
I paid msrp.
I don't have the time or patience to search out and formulate big plans to get or use a coupon.
I did not get mud flaps though. I fell for that one early.

Same here. Granted my work has a sponsorship with my local dealer but over all i didnt fell like shopping and knew it be hard to beat the deal, plus they donate a lot to my school corporation so figured with the deal in place along with them donatinf money to help out my students i would buy from them. Plus dealer is 1 minute from work and 3 minutes from the house.

I may get a month out of a tank of gas with my 6 mile round trip each day.

Here is the thing: if you are happy with what you paid, in the immortal words of Richard Feynman (why my autocorrect keeps changing his name dunno)

No, I'm dogging him, because he's a car dealer, and I'm probably not getting the vehicle anyway.
I remember about 10 years ago, I had a dealer try to switch something up on me during the middle of the deal... And I stood up, and litterally walked out. I only drove a few blocks away and parked, because I expected them to call and apologize. Sure enough, they did. Of course I told them I was sitting in front of another dealer šŸ˜€ lol Of course I kind of raked them over the coals a little before I came back, and when I did, they didn't try anything else slimy.
Long story short, I just feel like most auto dealers are money hungry snakes. And if you give them any chance, they will squeeze every penny out of you that they can.
The whole reason most dealers ask for a deposit is not because of being money hungry ( a deposit should be applied to the purchase ), it’s because of the limited allocation and supply of the Maverick. Sure they can sell it to someone else when it comes in and you don’t buy it but what about the people that wanted to order one but couldn’t because all of the allocations were gone? Deposits are just meant to weed out the maybe buyers from the serious buyers, someone is less likely to back out of their order if they have money already invested.
