I've spent much time going back and forth vs Installing "Roof Rack" rails... I've finally decided to start (next week) with the Roof Rack system (rails, mounts, crossbars) & the Yakima Long Arm for my Hobie Outback (~$1400). This allows me to use my folding tonneau cover that came with the First Edition for now.

Long term goal is to have a bed rack / tonneau combo solution using this Yakima HD rack, but I prefer the metal roll up vs the retractable solution (maintain max bed storage). I figured in time more options will become available.

any update ?

It does go lower, by about 5 inches as you observed. I have adjusted the rack to its lowest position and there is still quite a lot of clearance.

I'm curious about the 60 vs 68 inch crossbars too. I had 66" crossbars on my Subaru Outback and Impreza. I tend to carry a lot of toys but am planning on putting bikes in the truck bed.

Did anyone else have the issue Scooter66 had, needing a spacer to install the Overhaul HD?
Ordered one from REI and wondering if I need to order something to shim it with while I wait?
I installed the Yakima HD towers without a spacer. I have not tried to adjust the height of the bars at all since installing... I might run into the 'towers tilt in' problem if I do... I can't tell right now.

The towers do warp the plastic trim a bit

This photo illustrates that the plastic trim gaps / warps due to the force of towers clamped on.

Maybe not the perfect spot for this but I have this rack and plan to toss a very large roof top tent and some gear on it. This same load was on my jeep gladiator prior. Does anyone know if the bed sidewalls have a weight rating? Assuming I can just go off of the Yakima rack rating. Anyone know if there is a published static weight? Ive only seen the 300 off road and 500 on.

I have installed my bed rack using an 1/8" thick 2-1/4" wide rubber strip to keep the bases some what level (from McMaster-Carr - High-Strength Multipurpose Neoprene Sheet with Certificate, 12" x 24", 1/8" Thick 70A Hard). If you don't use a shim/spacer the bases will be tilted inward and you won't be able to attach the towers or they will will attach but be in a bind.

Is the install of the Yakima overhaul hd rack possible with the factory bed liner? Or is it blocking the clamps from a secure fit? Is your bed spray in or factory bed liner? Thanks!

Hey I am soon to be installing my Overhaul HD rack. I’ve found the material you mentioned on fixsupply.com but was curious about how you used it to offset the tilt? Are you cutting that bulk piece they sell to a matching shape of the clamps platform base? Or just a portion of it? And moreover if so how large a portion and where did you position it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated to help save time and hassle. Thanks!

I looked at Yakima but it was too much $$. Went with this rack for $550.
