A buddy of mine and I went to Moab a few weekends ago to do some camping, and do some offroading. The only upgrades I did was get a new spare tire to match the rest of the 225/65/17's (Silly how the "full-size spare" package from Ford doesn't include an actual full size spare, but at least one fits up there), and an air compressor. I was able to air down a few times, and thankfully didn't need to use the spare at all.

Let me tell you, this little truck can WORK off the pavement. The AWD system on this thing is an absolute beast. It is very aggressive at shifting around power when you need it, and from my experience, the only thing it needed was a little more gas if it started to slip. This was my first real time doing anything offroad, and I was suprised just how much I could acutally do. The only thing holding the Maverick back was the ground clearance, and I'm really excited to see what it can do when I put on a lift and some bigger tires.

We camped at some BLM land at a place called Yellowcat, and then went around the “Fins and Things” trail and did some of the easier stuff. If something looked a little too rough we just turned around.

The Maverick definitely isn’t going to be a serious rock crawler, but it will take you lot of places. One thing that is nice is that it’s a good size to hit trails with, usually you can just go around any big obstacle you might see, and if you do pop a wheel, the AWD system doesn’t send it any power.

Nice work - I will be hitting up the Utah dirt pretty soon. Ditching the 225 scorpions for 245- 1/inch taller- Did your skid plate take any hits ? That low mounted front valance and intercooler worry me a bit-

I definitely had a few scrapes, I’m thinking about upgrading the skid plates, they don’t really seems like they’re going to really offer much protection against any big rocks or anything. The front intercooler is pretty low, you definitely need to pick what line you want, and a good spotter for rough spots is nice too

The leaked rattler upgrade had a completely redesigned front end- Wish it was an option for this model year oh well - I see lots of plastic bits that will probably be ripped off or broken soon - lol

That sounds like about the level of off-road activity I would take it on. It's nice to know it's relatively capable.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad you had a great time!

I’ve got a gash on my chin, it hangs lower than the skid, though I’ve hit that too. I can only imagine what he’s done to his.

I'm not into off-roading, but it looks interesting. Good job, thanks for posting the videos and pics!
