Some of you may have read my few reviews on the Hybrid. If you did you know that I have compared the ride to an escape and just being more car like. Great ride. Engine has plenty of power.

Well now I've had the pleasure of the exact opposite. I can tell you they're not the same truck. The Eco feels absolutely planted to the pavement. Just feels solid. It looks, feels, and rides like a truck. From a dig the stuck is plain strong. It's actually fun to drive. The hybrid is not something I call fun but practical. I actually prefer the ride of the Eco just because I love trucks.

Now punching both at 40 mph....the hybrid actually wins here. It has zero lag and the power is just so linear. The Eco downshift and has to come on which it really does. On the interstate the hybrid wins hands down for a long drive.

Both are great rides but at the same time they are two different trucks. I did not expect that much difference.

I'd like so see both of them race with sport mode on from a dig and a roll.

For science.

There are a couple of YouTube reviews on comparing the two on 0-60 times. The Eco was faster by a couple of seconds, however, nothing was mentioned if the hybrid was in Sport mode. I was impressed with the big difference in the hybrid between 'Normal" and "Sport". The Maverick is awfully quick in Sport.

Also no reviewers have a fx4 4k with sport mode either since the factory swaps some modes out. I've already turned eco and sport mode back on my maverick. I'd love to line up with a hybrid with sport just to mess around.

Have not driven the Hybrid but my wife and were discussing this yesterday comparing Mav ECO to our old Honda Ridgeline. Ridgeline was (is) a fantastic ride but more body roll and does not have the instant / low end power - you had to punch it into VTEC and power comes on with higher revs.

The ECO compares better to a sports / GT sports car better than a truck suspension. Now we have the AWD FX4 with Tow so different rear shocks…but as you noted it is planted, good steering feel, less body roll, and the power / torque is great and available down low. This thing will scoot and handle. Ride and drive (for us) is step up from the Ridgeline - but we prefer a firmer ride vs. the luxury “wallow”. Ride is NOT jarring or uncomfortable - just firm enough to approach sports handling.

The Hybrid would definitely handle differently with no AWD, torsion axle rear, and electric drive.

We have a 2020 Hybrid escape titanium and you're correct about if you punch it while already moving about 20-40 it really accelerates like crazy with zero lag. I like it, same powertrain as mavericks have. I chose the eco boost on my maverick order just cause I still don't trust the long term reliability of the hybrid battery yet and want to be able to tow our trailer more comfortably than a 2k tow rating. I work close to home so MPG isn't an issue really. Other than that I would have went with the hybrid. We are currently having trouble with the Escape but its simply the half sized regular 12v car battery thats failing and it sometimes needs a jump from my booster pack to bring it back to life after it sits overnight but thats a simple fix......just waiting on our dealer appt for service next week since its a warranty issue. Otherwise I'd just replace it myself with a group 48 (standard size car battery) since there is room for one. Obviously thats completely unrelated to the hybrid system or drivetrain which so far has been great.

Clearly, you're a mind reader! I've been waiting for my opportunity to line up at a stop light with a Tesla or similar just to knock them down a notch.

That's true, but I have the hybrid and in sport mode it uses both the electric and gas engines. Might be close ... for a few yards. LOL.

I suppose we won't know for sure until I get the opportunity to do the experiment. Famous story about how people would argue about how many teeth in a horse's mouth until someone actually decided to look and count. :)

Good review! Very helpful for those who might be considering the Ridgeline. I was until I discovered it was unable to be flat-towed.

I suspect the Bolt is a much smaller and lighter vehicle. Sounds like an unfair race.
