Hey yall,

Just wanted to let you know that I have taken my Maverick (xlt ecoboost, NOT awd) to the dealership after it was randomly shutting off on me when making a full stop. The truck shuts off abruptly (not at all like the way it shuts down with the auto start/stop) throws up the message ""Shift to P then restart engine" The tech that received the truck says he thinks its electronic based on the video that I showed him. This happened over four times to me yesterday throughout the day. It was happening with the auto start stop turned off (by button, not my chip or aftermarket accessory). It also happened with it on.

After restarting the truck worked "fine," in that it could move and I could drive it. But the truck felt like it was trembling, jittery, stuttery, almost as if it was about to turn off at any moment. Which, it would, once I would make the next full stop.

I have been having other issues with it, with what feels like the transmission slipping (revs up to 6k but is moving at less than 5mph). And it seems to have gone into what is referred to as limp mode a few times on me when at intersections. Where regardless of me pressing down on the pedal to move, or sometimes seemingly in response to me pressing the pedal, it will not move and sometimes even shake back and forth. When going up hill it has started feeling like it is slipping/sliding... I can only liken it to when I used to have a rear wheel drive truck, and in light rain and with bad treads on the tires, it would slip a little/lose traction here and there a little. The other issue I reported before that is back is some annoying noise that comes up at 1500-2000rpm. They previously fixed it, said it was a loose fuel line, but the noise is back.

They told me it will probably be a few days and that the engine shutting off is probably an electric problem.

The truck has 1900 miles. I will keep yall posted on if/when they find a solution to the problem.

Finally got around to cutting and compiling the videos that I have taken of the issues.

This video shows the problem that I mentioned in the original post, and the one that so far has gotten the most attention at the shop. It is perhaps hard to see in the video(s), but the mechanics that have driven it have all said there is definitely something wrong.

This is a video where I show the stalling of the truck. Pretty self explanatory. They couldnt recreate this issue, but it has happened many more times than what is on these videos.

I am really sorry to see you having so much trouble. I have had mine since 11/21 and have not had the first glitch.

I do worry about the other one that is scheduled for an April build after read posts like yours though.

Hope it gets straightened out soon.

Truck is still at the shop. Havent found what is causing the various issues I brought up. Whatever it is, they said it is a good thing I stopped driving it and took it in, because there is definitely something up with the transmission. Said they dont do loaners, but put me in a rental for now, saying Ford would be billed for it because it is not right at the truck is out of commission before hitting 2000 miles.

Hope they figure it out and that I get my truck back soon. Also thinking about maybe selling it to Carvana if the problems arent fixed. Dont want to keep making payments on a broken truck.

Edit - Oh and I didnt mean selling it before it gets fixed to Carvana. Simply that, if they tell me its been fixed, but I still dont feel confident or good about it, I may just get rid of it... and buy another? Hah.

Did you pull any obd codes?
Nope. I dont have a scanner, and I didnt see any when I went into engineering mode (I read they were also supposed to pop up there if there were any).

You can get a basic scanner for about $20 on amazon and it's a very handy tool, although the cheap ones don't really give you detailed information. But you can see codes. Just a thought, but probably irrelevant since it's already in the shop.

Well, I have the truck back now. They could not recreate the issue that was causing the stall.

However, they did address the other two issues mentioned in my original post. About the noise between 1,500-2000 rpm, they said they added more clips to some heat shield that was coming loose.

The transmission issue was bad. They were able to confirm the problem.

The notes read: Confirm complaint found GSB 22-7036 found valve body outta spec removed and replaced all ok"

Here are the part numbers of what was ordered and replaced. JM5Z - 7A100 - D

Ford Maverick "Shift to P then restart engine" - Mav shutting off when I come to a full stop 1651266904090

Said give it a few hundred miles to "relearn" my driving. Said if it happens again they are going to have to replace the entire transmission.

That doesnt inspire much confidence... at this point, maybe I would rather they just replace the transmission and be done with it. I may go back and asked for the detailed job notes (if they even share that), where they took pictures of what they found when they opened the transmission and whatnot.

Edit - For what its worth... there was another Mav in there too. That one was a hybrid. I was told it was a wiring issue, the truck died on the owner at a red light. Would not turn on the gas engine. Tech said, he wants to love the Mav, but would not recommend people buying one right now based on what he has seen come in and with such few miles. He said the problems are not minor kinks. /shrug.

2nd Edit - Maybe I simply wasnt looking in the right place, but I could not find GSB 22-7036 anywhere online.

People have to realize issues like these are not as common as it sounds. I have 4200 miles on my Maverick after 6 months and have zero issues. In fact, I have the trailer brake controller recall I still need to take it back to get reporgammed, but am waiting to do an oil change (first 3 at dealer are free) to get it done.

It's a brand new vehicle, yep. There are bound to be a few lemons here and there, yep. Bound to be some issues in 1 out of X vehicles, yep. But a funky trnasmission in yours doesn't mean the mechanic should be stating he is seeing a LOT of problems, given that he's probably only seen maybe 2-3 at his dealer tops anyway. That just isn't a large enough sample to inspire any confidence in what he says for me. Maybe in a couple years after he's worked on 15-20 mavericks and even then if 10+ had similar issues only then would I think maybe he's on to something.

I agree with you. I hope I didnt get one of the lemons. You said the mechanic should not be stating he is seeing a lot of problems... but we dont know how many problems he has seen. I dont know how many Mavs that tech has seen go into the shop, or what the problems were. We also dont know how that compares to say other models (rangers, f150s, etc), in his mind. As in, has he seen a higher percentage of fresh off the lot Mavs coming straight back to the shop, compared to those other models, to the point that it alarms him? Who knows. He should probably say whatever the hell he wants, and then we use our discretion as to whether we give it any credence or not. Not a fan of telling people what they should or should not be saying.

Latest update... the shop took the truck back in after I had it for the weekend. They confirmed problems are still around and they are going to replace the entire transmission.

This is good. I'd rather they replace the entire thing than screw around replacing parts and hoping it's all good.
