I am here because I really want a Maverick. The Maverick is the truck I envisioned when I purchased my Ranger. I currently have a 2020 Ranger XLT. The truck does the job, but had I known that the Maverick was coming, I would have waited. I didn't have a clue about the Maverick being developed at the time. My beef with the Ranger is that it is too tall, handles pretty sloppily, and even when I drive grandpa-style, my best mpg is 22. Normally, I'm in the 20-21 range.

I joined this group because it looks as if I'm going to have to wait until August and order a Maverick. I've never ordered a new vehicle before and I'd like to see what information there is here in regards to ordering a vehicle. Before I go posting questions about that, I'll search around first and see what resources are available here.

A Maverick ST would be pretty cool if it isn't too far out of line price-wise. I miss my Focus ST some days!

Thank you for listening.

Get your Mav order in one day one, when MY 23 opens up. Don't expect to actually get one until 2023, especially if you order a hybrid.

I mean maybe by then things will be different by then, but the way the world is turning...maybe not.

Welcome. Lots of info here and fun too. I also never ordered a vehicle before and the Maverick a new model at that. I can hardly wait to get it. I'm still waiting to just get in production. It'll be awhile.

You can no longer order a 2022 Maverick, the 2023 Maverick order bank is supposed to open in August.

Also, be sure you order without any options, including an engine, transmission, or windows. At this rate, everything will be constrained by the 2023 model year.

edit: I would suggest getting round wheels, but you'll have a better chance of taking delivery if you get the default square ones.

Welcome to the forum!

Understood. I read Aug 16th is when you can start ordering the 2023's. Thanks.

Unfortunately, I want a lot of options, so I will probably be at the back of the line. :(

What part of PA?

The next few months is a good time to watch who gets a new trucklette and who doesn't. Much of the determination is based upon a dealer's allocation; the number of vehicles ford lets him schedule each period. Some dealers get large numbers of allocations (big volume) and others (small mom&pop) not so many.

Chapman (Horsham, Philly, Lancaster), Granger (Iowa), have pushed the envelope by offering good deals ($off MSRP or invoice-%) to grab volume. However, this volume may not directly correlate to allocations. So, longer delays in scheduling/production/delivering in exchange for 'better' deals.

Watch for dealers local to you and how they seem to fare in scheduling and delivery. Selecting a dealer may be more important than vehicle/options; as many of us are now learning.

I'm in Milton PA. There's small to mid-size dealers around me. I have been looking at larger dealers out of my area.

Could you elaborate on " Selecting a dealer may be more important than vehicle/options; as many of us are now learning."? Sorry, I am a little new to this aspect of searching for a vehicle.

Welcome! Lots of great info here! I would suggest leaving off items that can be dealer installed like tonneau cover, splash guards or things you can get aftermarket. Those have been constraint items

I saw the little dealer in Muncy. Really small. That smallness may mean they don't have a large number of sales of various vehicles (market basket formula blahblah). Not having a large sales presence, they won't get a large number of vehicles to sell or orders selected to build. So, a benevolent ford may let them schedule one or two mavericks a quarter (independent on the number or age of pending orders). This dealer may only have a few orders pending, but it may take a quarter or two (or longer) for an order to pop up.

Now, you may see other dealers with a larger presence selling many more units (and harder to sell models). The big guy in Harrisburg/Mechanicsburg for example. Because he sells more, he gets more [allocations] to sell. So, they may get a small handful of orders fulfilled each scheduling period (month). They may have a couple of dozens of orders, and they may schedule more quickly (or not).

Lastly, you may have the mega volume dealer. They may be granted a dozen or two allocations per scheduling period/month. This is great unless you are on the tail end of a 400unit backlog at that dealership. They may pop through a lot of orders, but with so many waiting... the last ones may not schedule anytime soon.

So this is the deal. The allocation scheduling used by ford is proprietary black magic. It has been proported on various forums to try to balance schedules between all dealers regardless of size. The experience of members on this forum is that this algorithm is fundamentally broken. Many, many, complaints of some individuals getting their orders selected even though they may have been ordered months later than an identical build from a different dealer.

This scheduling disparity all seems to be based upon the allocation formula and the backlog each individual dealer holds. If you find (somehow) a dealer with a small backlog, and comparatively large number of allocations, you may get your vehicle sooner. Finding a dealer with a relatively large backlog or slow allocations will be a longer delay in getting your vehicle.

On top of this allocation mess are constraints. Part shortages exist. These shortages may effect some options and not others. Currently, this month, XLT and Lariat Lux packages are in short supply. Vehicles with those options are held back (not scheduled) until parts exist. This should be a short term effect, correcting over time, but this has not been the case this year.

In summary, for any given vehicle, its selection for scheduling will be based upon dealer allocations and backlog. Picking a dealer will have a huge difference in when the vehicle is selected. Secondarily, constraints pop up in determining which vehicles and which options will be selected to be built (from dealers with those orders AND available allocations).

I posted this before and its based on my buying experience and what has been posted on here. This site is a huge help with some great information.
Learn the buying process. From the DORA, the email from Ford verifying, generally what to expect. Build your truck online and save it for when you are ready to order.
Pick a dealer that knows what they’re doing and has a good reputation. Ask about their allotment. This is huge!!!
I suggest shopping around the local guys aren’t necessarily the best option. I live in PA as well, I drove 3 hours round trip from York to Horsham because that’s where I got the best deal and the dealer was great. So much so that my son ordered an F-150 from them.
Just my humble opinion

Ok, that sort of makes sense. I see how Ford is trying to spread allocation around so that even the little guys get some and don't feel left out. So a big dealer who sells a lot, and can order a lot, doesn't necessarily mean you'll get one quicker if they already have a bunch on order.

Looks like I have some homework to do. Thanks!

The key is to order early….get in the front of the line.
I ordered mine in the early stages, site unseen, my dealer didn’t ask for a deposit and I was not committed to take the Maverick upon delivery. A win-win. Why hesitate when I had nothing to lose and my awesome Maverick to gain.
