Been eyeing this thing for some time now, was originally gonna go with the Veloster N as a natural progression from my Hyundai Gencow (genesis coupe) But the Maverick captured my imagination, literally. Placed my "order" yesterday which is allegedly just some priority for 23 model orders in august if the dealer is to be believed. I come from the world of Tail of the Dragon trips, local track open lapping sessions and basically just cornering fun. Function first, then trying to look a little pretty while doing it.
The Mav is just too damn practical to pass up, combined with alot of performance potential.. I can throw my Harley in the back with the tailgate down and road trip, plus the truck actually fits in my parking garage, and the unibody chassis/independent rear susp at least gives me a far more solid pickup platform to build off of for handling and performance mods than anything else available.
Pictured below is what im coming from, I'm thinking ill keep the mav a lil more low key, find a better balance of performance and daily driver as the gencow, 9 years later... isnt the most pleasant thing after 9 years of lowered car and potholes. But I am specifically ordering a oxford white so i have the option of going the white and black storm trooper style look or just wrapping it as im not terribly excited about any of the stock colors. I'm almost tempted to put the same or a similar green on the Mav.
So far the rough plan in my head is quality coils, or a replacement strut/lowering spring setup. Not too severe of a drop, maybe 2 inches max, Lightweight forged wheels, as wide as will possibly fit, likely mich sport 4s tires as im very familiar with them, or for year round use mich's performance all seasons as my part of canada isnt particularly snowy. Then stiffer sways, strut bars, any kind of underbody brace kits if available, camber/caster plates if available. And the wrapping of alot of the black plastic on the exterior, particularly color matching the black trim around the bottom of the bumpers and side skirts to color match whatever color i end up doing the Mav in. That alone from pictures ive seen of a silver Mav on bags with all the lower black trim color matched will help it appear lower and more aggressive. And of course the usual little exterior stuff like light upgrades tailgate lettering etc.
I dont plan to go as crazy as i did to my Gencow over its 9 years of ownership but who knows once i start right?
I finally test drove one yesterday actually and was pleasantly surprised at the corning prowess of the maverick. Taking a local off ramp that connects to a similarly higher speed limit road thats supposed to be a 50kmph/32mph corner during the test drive i made three passes of it. I had no problems entering at 90/55 and exiting at 100/62 on this corner. And the big thing i noticed and was shocked by is when mid corner, pushing it hard, bumps dont cause typical rear end wiggle or shake that even my Gencow did in stock form. The mav was dead planted like it was on rails. In its stock form it can already out corner my gencow on its lil 225 winter tires. But the big take away for me was how it brushed of any bumps mid corner that usually unsettle ur suspension like they weren't even there.
The long wait till August begins.
