Yall,

This might be a silly question, but I need to ask it. If and when you are in reverse gear... does your Mav still roll forward if at a slight decline?

Let me explain what and why im asking this. I went to the supermarket yesterday. To me, the parking lot looks flat, but there is just the slightest decline, to where if I let go of the buggy/shopping cart, it slowly rolls away.

I got into my maverick yesterday, put it in reverse, and then waited until the car behind me rolled by. When I let go of the break in anticipation of my turn to pull out in reverse from the parking space, my truck started to inch forward, as if I was in neutral. It took me a second to realize what was going on, and then I stepped on the breaks to make sure I didnt hit the car in front of me.

See this picture, if what I am saying is not clear:

Pretend my truck is the red arrow. While in reverse gear, my truck started rolling toward the direction the arrow is pointing in.

Anyway, it was enough to make me go home and try to recreate it, and it happened again on another decline (this time one that was more pronounced), so maybe it was to be expected. [Edit - To let you know how that experiment ended.... the truck started rolling down that decline, while in reverse, and then all of a sudden some kind of error popped up on the screen, and the truck turned itself off. It said something along the lines of, you need to park, then put it back into gear for it to work again]. But, I dont think I have ever owned another vehicle that behaves like this and im wonder if it is normal, or if mine has a problem. Maybe im just an idiot and this is all normal. Please dont flame me!

Is this normal? Does yours behave the same way?

I have been having what I think may be transmission issues... and im wondering if this may not be related to that in some way. Here is what I wrote in another thread about my transmission issues.

Mine started doing something similar just two days ago. At first noticed it when I tried to reverse out of my garage and the truck was acting like I was simply in neutral. Later that day and today, sometimes at stop lights, when I step on the accelerator, there is a strange delay, where its almost as if im not stepping on it at all (3-5 seconds), before it finally kicks in and starts moving very slow. The engine then revs high, in a way that is disproportionate to the actual movement of the vehicle. Again, as if it had momentarily slipped into neutral.

There have been loud grinding noises. There have also been times when the engine sounds like its revved up to 2-3k but the rpms simply read as if its idling normally.

Since I cant seem to recreate it on demand, I think im stuck waiting for it to just go bust or get worst, before I can take it to the dealer.

I have had mine since october and it only has 1,400 miles.

I’m just here to say I knew you were from the south without looking at your profile just from the first word of your post.

I keep the braking assist feature on so that can’t happen. The brake locks when you stop or turn off the truck. It stays on until you press the gas peddle.

Im from Ohio and live in Hawaii(pretty far south) and say "yall" all the time.

As for the OP. That sounds like normal gravity to me. However I have never driven a car with any driver aids other than a hood ornament and mirrors so I dont know about this modern stuff. I will tell you that the best way to get an underpowered vehicle to do a burnout is to go in reverse to about 5 mph throw it in neutral for a sec, rev it up, then drop it in drive. Then your autos torque converter will either die or build enough power to overcome reward momentum and spin the tires forward. Good fun. Dont do it.

I haven't experienced this with the Maverick, but I've had something similar happen with other electric-powered vehicles.

Specifically, what happened was I accidentally let the truck roll forward just slightly as I was putting it in reverse. Because it was moving forward, the reverse gear never engaged. Instead I got a beeping and an error condition telling me to stop the vehicle before putting it in reverse.

The forward motion was so slight I hadn't really noticed it, but when I experimented with it I found that the slightest roll forward prevented reverse from working correctly.
