You are correct. The extended (key word) warranty won’t do much (if anything) for the first three years. You’re really buying the years after the manufacturer warranty. The marketing is to make it sound like more than it is. The first 3 years is included with the vehicle and additional years can be purchase. Ford could call it a +3 year, + 4 year, etc. warranty which would likely confuse people as well. So, a 6 includes the 3-year bumper to bumper and 3 years of extended warranty. This is true if you buy the 6-year warranty at the end of the 3 years as well, but the price will be a few hundred more.I'm dumb and need someone to break this down for me. Ford offers a 3 year warranty with the purchase of the vehicle? Then adding a 6 year extended warranty gives you double coverage for 3 years. Then 3 years after the expiration of the original Ford warranty? So you are actually only getting 3 additional years. Correct?
I won’t be buying one, but I’m mechanically inclined. My recommendation is to take the $2k and throw it in a S&P 500 ETF. When (if) you need to do a major repair tap into it. If you decide the Maverick isn't for you before the 3-year period is up, you pocketed some nice cash. If you want to add the warranty at 35 months into owning the Maverick, you will likely have made enough money to cover the price increases plus a little.
Some people like the "peace of mind" and Granger Ford are offering a good deal on these warranties. Not knocking them, they have done a great job giving people deals on tons of Ford products.
