No, the news from Las Vegas is that Ford will withhold modules from all models.

Ford Motor Co. will sell some Explorer SUVs without rear temperature controls as part of a bid to complete transactions and get vehicles into customers' hands sooner amid the lingering global semiconductor shortage.
The number of vehicles this will apply to wasn't immediately clear, as Ford spokesperson Said Deep explained that it depends on the specifications of the Explorer being sold. Not all trim levels offer backseat control over heating and cooling.
Explorers without the semiconductor chip-powered function could begin shipping to dealers as early as this week, according to Deep. Customers who are affected by the change would be offered an unspecified price reduction. Ford plans to have dealers install the components at a later date as chip supplies improve. In the meantime, heating and cooling for rear-seat passengers still will be available via controls in the driver's row.
The move follows a similar one Ford made last year with F-150 customers. To facilitate faster deliveries of the popular pickup truck, Ford offered to sell units at a discount without an automatic stop-start feature.
"It's all about getting vehicle to our customers sooner," said Deep.
Automotive News on Saturday first reported news of Ford's plan to ship and sell vehicles without some semiconductor-powered components for non-safety functions. The Detroit Free Press reported Sunday that Ford would ship Explorers without rear seat controls for temperature and ventilation.

Ford is not the only automaker to make such a move due to the chip shortage, which has hampered auto production worldwide for more than a year and severely curtailed new car output. As of Friday, the global automotive industry had lost more than 929,500 units of planned vehicle production this year, according to estimates from forecasting firm AutoForecast Solutions.
General Motors Co., for example, temporarily removed the option for heated seats for much of its 2022 lineup, though the automaker said there would be a retrofit process to activate those modules at a later date. And, among numerous other examples across brands, electric-vehicle maker Tesla Inc. cut a steering component from some of its vehicles, CNBC reported last month.

As long as Ford doesn’t install the needed chips for our packages in other vehicles first.
backlogs have priority and such.

If Ford will keep my rear sliding window and power mirrors...they can skip the CP360. I'll gladly pay less.

Since it Ford-related, Long McArthur received 2 F-150's from Claycomo with instructions to wait on missing wiper motors. I think they are one of the 26 vendors who cannot keep up with Claycomo's ability to produce an F-150 every 53 minutes or keep up with the supply chain demands across the vehicle manufacturing sector.

I drive by a major Subaru, Dodge, BMW and Toyota dealership multiple times a week and their lots are as empty as you can think.

My dealer (and Ford in general) doesn't deserve 1% of my money until I receive 100% of my purchase.

Will Ford take my monthly payments using a paper check? All the routing and account numbers, on the bottom of the check, will be complete once I get all my chips. Doubt that will happen.

So you are saying that Automotive News and numerous other journalist covering the auto industry are committing journalistic malpractice when they report that Ford will sell vehicles with “non-safety critical ships” un-installed. They are all mis-reporting the true fact, that Ford will sell Explorers without rear AC controllers. Seems pretty hard for professionals to confuse these two statements.

First of all, the article the Thread was started with this past Saturday was from Automotive News and if you would like to list the numerous other journalists covering the auto industry, I would enjoy reading their publications about the MAVERICK being shipped without modules or chips. What Automotive News printed was correct. Ford is selling vehicles with non safety critical chips. All true. but nowhere in the article did they mention Mavericks were being shipped without modules, but somehow it was inserted in the Thread Title Line.

Automotive News never said the Maverick was one of those vehicles.

The Detroit Press did a interview with a Ford Spokesperson and was informed the EXPLORER was the only vehicle to be shipped without non critical modules. Which is TRUE by numerous other journalists that I can list.

Ford will sell partially built vehicles awaiting chips or related components that control non-safety critical features, it told dealers today.

Dealers will get the missing chips within 1 year to install on the already-sold vehicles, Ford said.

news story:

DETROIT – Amid an ongoing chip shortage, Ford is reportedly planning to ship and sell vehicles without certain non-critical chips as the automaker deals with a pile of unfinished vehicles.

Automotive News reports that Ford told dealerships on Saturday that they plan to sell vehicles without chips for some non-safety features, with plans to install them in the already-sold cars within a year.

Ford, like other automakers, has been dealing with a shortage of semiconductor microchips, and have a growing inventory of vehicles waiting for chips.

Ford isn’t the first to eliminate some chip-powered features. GM temporarily dropped heated seats in some models earlier this year.

If you read the whole story and also go to Ford.com and read the complete article it states the Vehicles impacted include Ford Super Duty pickups, Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator! NOWHERE does it mention that the Maverick will be delivered without chips.....etc? No one should post misleading headlines and not read the complete article on this forum!! There is too much misinformation being put out on this and other internet media sites!!

A little story about a chip manufacturer in this country in the early 80's. Microprocessors were coming online and Intel and AMD were at the forefront of development. Intel made a microprocessor with a track on the chip that went to nowhere and did absolutely nothing. A few years later we confiscated a Russian computer to check out their advancements in microchips and there it was a packaged Russian microprocessor with the same track going nowhere and doing absolutely nothing.

The reason I bring this up, we were always ahead of our advisories until we moved all our secrets to China for manufacturing (they signed a non disclosures agreement) and then they share all that information with IRAN. NORTH KOREA and RUSSIA. Our tax dollars pay for all this Research and Development, and they get it all for free.

How do I know this, I worked for the Department of Defense in various capacities my whole career in Research and Development and get pissed off every time I see a Russian Tank decked out with our Home-Grown Technology?

No Politics

Rant Over!!!
Greatest strategic mistake since the trojan horse is USA providing technology to China, the short term profits by corporations has created a military adversary that will threaten our grandchildren the rest of the century.

If you take a vehicle that needs chips Ford should offer a discount for the inconvenience.
