Henry Ford was big on interchangeable parts.

Just for fun, can anyone estimate the percentage of parts that are unique to a Maverick as opposed to the parts that are used on other Ford models?

I started poking thru my parts catalog checking to see what the Mav shares with other vehicles after hearing the term "parts bin truck" on this forum and I kept coming up with a huge majority K2GZ prefix on part #'s, not seeing a lot of #'s used on other models. That's not to say they aren't the same design- Ford will sometimes change up part #'s when having them made from different suppliers or after the slightest change to a design.

My estimate- 85% unique not counting hardware. Although I don't think there's any way to find out.

Henry Ford was big on a lot of things that FOMOCO doesn't care about anymore. He invented the best automotive part numbering system ever devised, you could look at a part # and know what it fit and what part it was. For whatever reason around 2000, Ford just broke all the rules.

Henry also had a famous quote "I'd rather train someone and have them leave then not train them and have them stay". If you've ever dealt with Ford's customer service then you know this just isn't a priority anymore. I routinely field calls from them asking why I don't have parts for a given warranty customer who called them to complain- on jobs where I placed the order with Ford, so they sure as hell should know better than I do why I don't have parts!
