To think there wont be setbacks in that agenda is laughable at this point. Electric infrastructure, supply chains(chips), political, and economics always slow down goals like those. Companies always plan for those problems. Atleast ones that survive do.How many years do you think it takes to go from concept engine to production? Exactly, they started that years ago.
Hyundai just released their latest brand new engine design for 2022 (that 2.5T they have in the SC and many others is brand new), so they have no need for a complete redesign before ICE are emissions regulated out of existence, because as mentioned its not uncommon for engine designs to last 20 years with mild updates that don't require an entire design team to implement.
Ford has already said its entire Europe lineup will be EV by 2030, and by 2026 (in just four years) all of its passenger vehicles will be zero emissions capable (meaning at least plugin hybrid). Even sooner, by 2024, only TWO YEARS from now, their commercial offerings will all be zero emissions capable.
Gas stations aren't going away anytime soon, as every year the average age of vehicles on the road in the US increases and is currently at 12.1 years and still climbing, as people buying Ford hybrids or PHEVs in 2029 should be expected to be in use at minimum until 2041. However, brand new ICE designs just don't make a lot of sense, as you can use existing ICE designs and just electrify them, just like they did with the 2.5L Ford/Mazda engine we have in our Maverick hybrids, giving them new life.
I think no matter the set backs, EU legislators will push the mandates anyway, and if it means the lower and middle class have to take mass transit and are priced out of personal-mobility the happier they will be (the 90/Greens are now the second largest party in Germany). Norway is a super oil rich country, and yet gas price average in Oslo today is $6.27 due to government policies, so they are pretty serious no matter how many it hurts. And just like the pipeline was cancelled in the US even though it was practically done, they want to do the same with the Russia pipeline. To think there wont be setbacks in that agenda is laughable at this point. Electric infrastructure, supply chains(chips), political, and economics always slow down goals like those. Companies always plan for those problems. Atleast ones that survive do.
This is a pretty ignorant remark. I've owned two Hyundais in recent years, both completely trouble free. They didn't "Fire" their I.C.E. development team, such an ignorant statement, they reassigned them because they have a very good grasp on the EV realm and are one of the best when comparing against the benchmark of Tesla in terms of battery performance/range. Why would they continue to waste money on internal combustion engine development when their fairly short term goal is to have a complete electric lineup? You think the technicians at the dealers aren't going to be able to service and repair internal combustion engines because the R&D team has been reassigned? Ridiculous. This is the exact kind of ignorance that plagues these forums with misinformation and an overall crummy experience compared to every other model specific forum I've been a part of.Lol.
For all those impatient sally's who say "I am gOiNg To GeT a SaNtA cRuZ"
Have fun with larger markups and a freaking Hyundai. The company fired their entire I.C.E. engineering team and you want to buy an I.C.E. vehicle from them?
I am getting Free oil changes for life on my Maverick. Also got that years ago on my 2012 Chevy Colorado. I probably have saved $1,000 over the years on those. That is WILD. I've found Santa Cruz's are pretty easy to find. Most dealerships around here are marking up between 1-3K. I found one for MSRP with OTD signed pricing from the sales manager within 1 hour of calling. 500 dollar reservation, and it should be delivered in the next week or so. Still keeping my Maverick order, and will decide what do when/if it ever gets scheduled or built. But for comparable features ( a little less towing, but more creature comforts, plus a 60/40 folding back seat, and a warranty that DWARFS the Ford warranty PLUS 3 years included maintenance and oil changes) on a truck that is here...essentially now... when I need it and with transparency... It will at least give me time to drive it and then read all the longer term reviews and feedback from the people who have gotten their mavericks.... I could probably recoup my money, plus some, when it comes time if I decide to actually get the Maverick.
For $50k you can get an F150 4x4 XLT!I’m getting tired of waiting so, I did some
Shopping. Found a Hyundai Santa Cruz. Shifty dealer wouldn’t say the price until I got a little
Rude about it.
