Tesla is the king of over promise and under deliver. I don't get it.
If Tesla could do half the things they promised, they would have a trillion dollars market value. Of, that's right, they are worth that much.

This is a period of high innovation, one size does not and will not fit all. People that head up divisions also need to feel a level of autonomy rather than being in a top down approach. That is how the Maverick was built and it should be looked at holistically. At the same time a lot of what is going on is an experimentation to see what works best. On thing about "better communication" is that it begats more communication. It give more to criticize, discect, and throw darts at. More is not necessarily better when things are changing day-to-day even though we think it would be/should be. Attorneys advise their clients not to speak....no doubt same here. It will be held against you.
That’s not a corporate motto i use to manage a large group of dedicated employees and customers and if any of my team did they i would have to let them go. Employees and customers understand and assist in solving problems. Inclusive - not exclusive is my motto and it has worked for me for over 50 years in all different types of business and by anyones measurement i have been highly successful. I will give Ford allot of credit for not taking government handouts but they have a terrible track record with Mazda, Volvo, Jaguar and now Rivian and until recently they have paid the price for it with the investment community on the stock market. I do hope they are successful in “innovating” but i see it more like “imitating” what’s already been and is being done by others. In the next ten years the EV market will shake out to 4 companies. Ford will be successful if they are number 4 behind Tesla, VW, and GM.

I suggest you might consider checking out VW.COM and the methodology they are using to communicate with ID4 reservation holders.

I'm not sure the dealer allocation system is the problem. Remember there's a pandemic, supply chain issues and staffing shortages.

Yes, it is. TheBronco is a perfect example. My dealer has close to 1,000 orders. There allocation is 20-30 month, you can calculate how long it will take to fill all those orders. In the meantime, other dealers will fill all of their orders and have stock units available for sale.

It is easy to pick out something that we like and use it as the shining example, only to find that in another area it is rotting. Corporate culture can be difficult to examine depending on if that are in a growth stage versus a plateau stage. Managing a multi-billion cap company with hundreds of SBU's is quite different than managing a department. Would we even be talking if there were no pandemic?

As a different point than I have seen made here so far:

We can all (mostly) agree that 1) Ford wants a Just In Time car sales system; 2)They are advertising their custom order system; 3) The dealer model is not likely to go away in the next 5 years; 4) It is way to late to change the allocation system, prioritization of MY 2022 Maverick builds or current shipping logistics.

Given these points, Ford still has the option to do better, and HAS on other Ford vehicles. That's what is killing me. You can order a Bronco or Lightening and it shows up in your Ford online account under orders. You can transfer a Lightening order to a different dealership (not sure about a Bronco) if you are unhappy with your current dealership, up to a certain point in the production cycle. Why did they make the Maverick ordering process different? I've never heard anyone, including Tim, explain why Ford made THIS process different that the Bronco or Lightening (and I know he doesn't actually represent FMC, so that's a little unfair, but I would love to see this question addressed).
My family also has a Volkswagen EV on order. Ordering was done through the website, including paying the deposit. I can see my order when I log into my account. I am also unlikely to get my ordered vehicle in less that 9 months, but I DO KNOW that the order is correct and it has been properly submitted to VW. Their order/build tracking system is just as unreliable as Ford's, but at least I can see my order, an estimated build date (very general, says summer 2022), and any official model delays right in my account.
Part of what is really frustrating people with the Maverick process is the uncertainty - did my dealer complete the order process correctly? Why didn't I get a confirmation email? Is my order correct? Did the dealer update my build when I asked them to? Did my vehicle get scheduled and the email never got sent? If we could trust the system more, we would all be a little less frustrated.
Ford could update the ordering process much quicker and easier than they can update the manufacturing or shipping processes and fix a big chunk of people's frustrations.
I suggest you might consider checking out VW.COM and the methodology they are using to communicate with ID4 reservation holders.
Our family had one of the first reservations and orders for the ID4 in North America and the process was very transparent up to the point where the vehicle entered the US and made its way to VW’s final vehicle preparation facility, this is where they do final diagnostics and any adjustments or repairs/parts installation etc.

That is where the car stayed from late March until early May. All the time nobody at VW could tell me what was going on, after weeks of phone calls, finally VW corporate called me to tell me that the car was awaiting a critical part replacement and that it would be at the dealer within ten business days.

Now I know some will say that Ford cannot call everyone that has a problem with a vehicle delivery and I have to disagree, all I really needed was an email, I just wanted to know something so I could plan for financing etc. like most everyone. The car was about six weeks late but they did make it right and even gave me a small comp check when I took delivery.

VW is a huge company and they still took the time and made the effort to make it right. Granted they are not perfect.

What does make it right mean? The level of hand holding some people require is amazing to me.

So ford has 100,000 for the Maverick alone and during a pandemic and because of shortages everyone know about you want them to notify each person of every nuance that is occurring when the Maverick was not even promised until a later date. LOL!!!

The thing about tesla is they actually do a lot of what they promised. They are launching and recovering rockets, which is really hard. At one time I thought Musk was a snake oil salesman surrounded by smart people. He keeps producing though.

No longer true they are profitable in the latest quarter on just selling cars. Anyways that just shows how smart they are and how well they use a financial facility available to run a business. As an example many business use advanced depreciation of assets to show a profit. Common in manufacturing and will be used by Ford as the configure and build plants. Without it i could have never afforded to put 20 new delivery trucks on the road this year and hire many people with great salaries and full benefits. I didn’t take a dime in COVID handouts from the government.

Buddy you can call it what you will, I don’t need any hand holding never have maybe just a little respect after all it’s my money and patience they want.

Not sure if that concept isn’t too much over your head.

Yes after how many years in business - the title says it all. Don't try to change the script though by breaking continuity with what has been previously said in this discussion.

Don't get me wrong I like Elon Musk and his ability to innovate and disrupt.

True, "Far-side" is more accurate than "Dark-side".
'Dark Side of the Moon' is the best-conceived concept album ever.
And the Far Side comics are very funny.:sneaky:
