I'm about pulling my hair out here in this you-can't-get-there-from-here.

I picked up a Harbor Freght/Badland ZXR 5000, a 5,000 pound winch, and their hitch winch frame.

I also picked up both of the mount plates they carry--and neither seems to fit--the small one can't line up properly, while the big one is too wide for the fairlead assembly.

It seems insane that they don't sell the needed parts for this.

Ultimately, the winch belongs on the cr hauler, but I need to move things this week.

it's a simple 18 ft metal frame, wood deck car hauler. The smaller two cars will get towed by the maverick, but I'll be borrowing a heavier vehicle for the '72 cadillac . . .

Am I missing something big here?

That winch is designed to bolt on the front of a UTV, correct? But you're attempting to mount it to the trailer?

.I see a $19.99 mount with this description: The BADLAND™ Winch Fairlead Mount is designed for mounting all truck winches with a 10 in. fairlead and 10 in. x 4.5 in. mounting pattern. Fits BADLAND™ winches, including ZXR 9,000 lb. winch, ZXR 12,000 lb. winch, and APEX™ 12,000 lb. winch.

And a $7.99 mount: This ATV Winch Mounting plate lets you mount a 2000 lb. BADLAND® winch to an ATV that doesn't have a built-in mounting plate. Fits BADLAND®, BADLAND APEX®, and most other short-drum winches.
  • bracket for fairlead and winch mounting
  • Designed for BADLAND® 2000 lb. and 3000 lb. ATV winches
Perhaps their large universal mount would work for a trailer...

I bought both of those.

If it is, I missed that, but I don't think that's the case.

It was the sweet spot in the line, with enough capacity for anything I need to tow.

At the moment, at the suggestion of someone from one of my car clubs, it's held on with a rather heavy chain. I got 60mm length grade 8 bolts, and ran the chain between the winch and the plate that came with it to mount the fairlead. It got the '98 mustang up just fine, once we figured out the power (bed power went out just after starting to pull, so we used jumper cables to another vehicle.

Friday, I'm getting a plate welded onto the tongue.

Tomorrow (assuming I succeed in getting the mustang off in my other driveway!), the Miata, which may be able to roll on without the winch (the ramps will be close to level, I think, with them reaching into the garage. ). I'll still use it for the tension, though, I expect.

And then I'll borrow a vehicle to tow the '72 cadillac . . . it and the trailer will be over 6k . . .

^^ I read the ad to mean it's a UTV winch meant to be mounted to for front of a UTV:

BADLAND ZXR 5000 lb. UTV/Powersport Winch

Good luck, there's always a way to make things work..

Post up some pics of the finished product...
