Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds like that speaker phone button on the phone is more accessible. At one time I thought the car play screen allowed you to toggle through audio options, but I didn't see it the other day.
This is the worst thing about the maverick, the radio lol I have nothing but problems with it ever day, but once i get it to work everything is fine until next start up lol. Just connecting to carplay is a fight!

Ahhh yep — classic SYNC 3 + iPhone behavior. Let’s break down what’s probably happening in your 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid.
First thing: when you say you have to unplug the phone cord to hear the call, that tells me the audio routing is getting confused between CarPlay (USB) and Bluetooth hands-free.

You’re likely running Apple CarPlay over USB on Ford Maverick with SYNC 3, and sometimes the phone call audio doesn’t route to the truck speakers properly while it’s plugged in.

Here’s what’s usually going on:
What’s Actually Happening
When your iPhone is plugged in:
USB handles CarPlay data + audio

Bluetooth handles phone call profile (HFP)
Sometimes SYNC glitches and the call audio stays on the phone instead of switching to the truck speakers
So you answer a call… and it’s either:

Silent
Coming out of the phone speaker
Or super low volume
Then you unplug the cable and suddenly it works. That’s the system “resetting” the audio path.

Very Ford. Very 2020s tech.

you have to go to the ford settings for those audio options, its easier to just do the speaker button on the phone its really quick

understood. then what is it? Also, which iPhone is it?

Also, since its probably a conflict between USB and Bluetooth, and the item on amazon in post #12 is bluetooth (I'm assuming that's how it bypasses the problem). But it would need to be purchased to find out.

Thanks for attempting to help. Bluetooth is turned off to ensure it is not an issue. USB works fine, as proven incoming audio works as well. I am not looking to diagnose. I am looking for if someone experienced a solution. Have a wonderful day!

There isn't one and most likely wont be one, the new mavericks get a whole new system so these are done with updates. I'm hoping for aftermarket radios to start coming out

somewhat on topic::: Testing with Siri - 2025 Ecoboost.

I started thinking about my own issues with Siri in my 2025. Lots of "hey siri" and at times no answering. I thought the answer was placing the phone up higher to my voice was the answer, turns out it wasn't better. Then remembering back when I first got the truck my phone was always in my pocket, but I would occasionally get a "key not found" warning until I adjusted my pocket - the phone was causing the issue. So the past 2 days I've gone back to keeping the phone in my pocket and Siri picks up 95% on first "hey siri' or at least on the second try .. no dead air like I would get with the phone in the 'charging area' (no charger for me) or laying in the console.

I'm guessing there's interference between the trucks listening and the phones listening (when its out) and the truck has less interference when the phones in my pocket, so it picked up the Siri.

That being said, going back to the 'phone calls' on pre 2025, I would guess the issue is between the phone plugged in (usb) and the phone also on Bluetooth (as mentioned above from ChatGPT). Does anyone have a phone answering issue when its not connected to USB? Does putting phone in pocket then make a difference as well? (I understand you cant use maps, but that's where the USB plug in device for bluetooth would be my next test)

just curious... (there's gotta be a fix/tweak for this... I hate losing to computers/electronics)

My last car 2016 Mazda 6, had the option to replace the hardware and software to get Carplay, several years later. So there is a chance... but probably slim.
