The best I ever got was 28 MPG but that was just briefly, soon as I hit the mountains I was back down below 24 MPG. I said to myself, if it takes considerable conscious effort to get just 23.5 MPG, it's not worth it.

Well if I knew for a fact I would get 38 MPG while maintaining the acceleration of the Turbo, I would have gone for the hybrid and got a lift installed with beefier tires. I knew the Tremor would be the worst to get for fuel economy and accepted that but if I got the hybrid, had to give up that sweet turbo and the off road features of the Tremor just to get say 28-30 MPG, I would have been pissed.

Every car I owned always got considerably less than the rated fuel economy. My Chevy Sonic with the 1.4 Turbo was rated 40 MPG on the highway, I got 28 MPG. My Fusion was rated for 30 MPG Highway, I get 22 MPG Highway on average, sometimes 23 MPG if I am lucky.

The only car that wowed me with its fuel economy and got its rated fuel economy, plus some, was my 2012 Ford Mustang. That 3.7L V6 and 6 Speed Automatic would get 31-33 MPG on 87 Octane running with cruise control on the highway if I did under 75 MPH.

I don't race from stop light to stop light nor do I follow people close enough to have to hit my brakes every 30 seconds but when traffic allows, cruise speed for me is 80 MPH and I doubt any hybrid is giving me upwards of 40 MPG at those speeds.
That 3.7 V-6 was a great engine in the Mustang and F-150 and then Ford dropped it in the F-150 and went with the 3.5 not sure why they did that. IMO the 3.7 was the better engine for a Truck.

Yes, in my opinion the 3.7L/6 speed auto was the best powertrain from Ford, the only issue I ever had was a premature water pump failure on it but Ford redesigned it and I drove on the 2nd one for 130,000 miles without issue. Not to mention you had 305 HP on 87 and if you were light on it, it still gave impressive fuel economy.

I am cool with the EcoBoost options but one of my pet peeves with Ford was killing the 3.7L for those who wanted good power, fuel economy and reliability without going to more expensive/complex turbo setup's.
