Kicker key powered sub. Cuts out.

Hello friends.
About a year and half ago I installed a kicker key 10" powered sub. Lately I have noticed it cuts in and out when playing songs. Sometimes it's fine and can play socks back to back no issues. Other times it comes in and out or just does not work. I have it tapped into the back speaker for input. I have noticed that it does this the most when I have my phone connected through android auto. It however still is spotty when not connected with the radio and Bluetooth.

Some thoughts I may have causing the issue.

One the rear speakers are not a great source of input. Maybe the fronts have a better signal since they are primary source of music.

Second maybe it has to do with the battery. Maybe it is getting different voltage during operation. I do know that if I forget to turn off the auto start and stop the sub will pop and cut out from the energy draw. I have not done the battery recall yet. It's a 2.0 ecoboost.

Maybe Android audio is the problem but would not explain just listening to the radio and through Bluetooth.

Lastly maybe the unit is going bad. I know that it seems to happen since I started using the sub.

No "maybe" about it - the rear speakers are hobbled in frequency response at the head unit. If you did not fiddle with Forscan when you installed the sub, it isn't getting much bass signal. If you think it works fine "sometimes" then this might not be the issue, or at least all of the issue.

You might mention whether you have the B&O system or not, as that may make a difference in how to resolve this.

You might also describe where you got the 12V for the amp from. I am hoping you pulled a new fused wire direct from the battery, but some people try to outsmart the truck. It is obviously pretty easy to check the battery voltage if you want to report engine off/on numbers.

FYI if you do go back and play with Forscan you can disable the A/S/S persistently. If you are prone to use the A/S/S and have $100 lying around, the eliminator dongle allows you to decide whether it stays off or not.

Sorry I can't rule out any components going bad, but there are at least some things to think about. Good luck.

Gotcha. I see now that the HS10 comes with with a long decent-sized power feed on the harness.

Finally got around to tapping into the head unit and it works great now. The rear speakers don't have the power to properly hold the bass signal.
