Picked up my GFC V2 Pro today in Vista, CA, where Basil’s Garage installed it. Major shoutout to these guys. After trying to figure out exactly what I wanted in terms of powering and wiring, they took a lot of the guesswork out of my hands and handled the cable routing for me. I also had them wire up the 3rd brake light while we were at it.
I’m planning to keep my EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus in the cab to keep it close to the 800W alternator charger, ensuring it stays topped up to power my GFC lights when needed. When I need power directly in the truck, I can unplug the extended cable in the cab and power the lights from there. They routed the 12V cable through the larger rubber grommet on the driver’s side rear seat.
This is just the latest in a long list of mods I’ve made to this vehicle. Since the very beginning, here’s what I’ve done:
Installed Mods:
- Exterior & Protection:
- Mudflaps
- 30% ceramic window tint (windshield, driver, and passenger side)
- 15% ceramic window tint (rear window, rear driver, and passenger side)
- Rubber bed mat
- Tailgate assist
- Lighting:
- Aftermarket LEDs in 3rd brake light (rendered moot with GFC installed)
- Technology & Electronics:
- Comma 3X (Running Blue Pilot) for hands-free driving (modified to disable noise alerts)
- Wireless CarPlay
- Forscan mods
- EcoFlow Power System:
- EcoFlow 800W alternator charger
- EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus
- Camping & Utility:
- RinseKit Pro, paired with a 1500W immersion water heater in the truck bed
- GFC V2 Pro Camper
- Molle panel for the cab-side interior of the camper
- Custom wind fairing for the top of the GFC
I drive like a grandpa since my Comma 3X is always on, and I try to maximize fuel economy as much as possible, so mileage may vary. Overall, I love this system and can’t wait to take it out on the trips I have planned in the coming months.
Update #1
So far, I’ve added 5/16 thread eye bolts to the mounting points with adjustable bungee cords to hang a gym bag for easy access from the side panel. I also added a paper towel roll to the other side for convenience. The red bungee cord going across will likely be used for hanging my clothes when I'm out on the water. The great thing about the V2 Pro is that the gas struts for the side panels are strong enough to hold my hanging wetsuit. My 24L Yeti Roadie fit perfectly under my tonneau cover and fits even better in the GFC. It will make a fine chair when hanging out below for now. I might use it as a table if I’m sitting on my Helinox camping chair.
I ordered Builtright MOLLE panels to install on the side of my truck bed. I’m hoping to build some sort of shelf/table that connects to the MOLLE panel if they fit. I also discussed a custom MOLLE panel with Underland Offroad for the bulkhead, as well as a custom wind fairing for the front of the GFC to help maximize fuel economy and reduce wind resistance. A Dometic fridge is on my radar for the future, but for now, the Yeti Roadie will serve me well.
I have yet to receive the headliner kit from GFC due to backorder, but it’s fine for now. I don’t mind the extra light, though I’ll have to see how condensation builds up over time.
I also installed the sheets from Overland Softgoods and have a 3M-mounted back window cover I could install, but I haven’t found a need for it yet. I’ll decide if I end up using it.
I know there was some mention of tent sag with these campers, but I think the tent looks absolutely awesome fully deployed. There was a manufacturing issue regarding this a few months ago that has since been rectified.
For mounting my surfboard, I opted for the Front Runner pads with old Thule straps from my SUV surfboard mount system. I considered the Thule SUP Taxi XT but decided against it since I don’t want anything too permanent. With this setup, I can easily take the pads and straps down when not in use.
Regarding the bulkhead MOLLE panel, space inside the Maverick is already limited. Installing a MOLLE panel with a window cutout would reduce the available mounting space. Since MOLLE panels are essentially made of holes, I think visibility through a full-panel design might still be decent, but I’m not sure. If anyone has input, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Looking forward to more upgrades on this build!
Update #2
Also added MaxTrax recovery boards using the Ford cleat and 2 bungee cords. Hoping to mount the boards on a molle panel if they fit.
Update #3
Some updates to the Maverick build:
I partially removed the rear seats and replaced the bottom cushions with a 3/4” 2’x4’ plywood platform. I also added hinges to the platform so I could still access the storage underneath.
I ran an extension cable outlet from my EcoFlow to the truck bed cubby space to provide power to the truck bed and camper when the truck is off. I’ll be adding tie-down points to the wood platform to mount a Dometic fridge.
Update #4
Installed a Dometic 35L fridge and swapped my Delta 3 Plus for a Delta 2 Max for higher power capacity. Secured anchor points to the seat delete platform with cam straps and added a 6.75-inch support piece (cut from a 2x8) underneath the power station.
Installed a second MOLLE panel from BuiltRight Industries and added their recovery board mount to my Beef Rack crossbars, moving my recovery boards to the roof. This freed up significant bed space for remounting other gear to the MOLLE panel. Used GZila track nuts for mounting on the Beef Rack bars.
Next Mods:
• Mounting a diesel heater to a MOLLE panel on the bulkhead
• Installing the GFC headliner kit (still on backorder)
• Adding a MOLLE panel for the bulkhead
• Installing a wind fairing from Colorado Fairing Company
• Setting up solar on the roof (requires a cable passthrough into the cab)
• Adding a third Beef Rack crossbar for carrying long gear up top
