Yakima Gatekeeper Bike Tailgate Pad

I’ve been using the Yakima Gatekeeper pad that is available an official accessory to haul around my Canyon Grizl. It’s been working perfectly aside from the strap being a little too short to comfortably wrap around the bike’s frame. Might be due to the geometry, but hard to tell.

What other pads are people using?

So far used it today to hold my wife’s beach cruiser and my single speed so we could take our son for a ride along the beach. I’m still tweaking the fit but I like it so far. If I ride it up higher on the tailgate then the back up cam is usable. I prefer it this way since I think it fits better with the bikes, too. I wish I could close my Truxedo Truxport tonneau with it on, but it’s not a big deal.

I’m sure it’ll do great with my Specialized Fuse 27.5. I dunno if I want to put my carbon Cervelo P2 tri bike on it, but I’m sure it’s fine in a pinch.

@technolithic Can the Yakima tailgate pad center door be kept open and allow the back up camera to function? Does the tailgate pad fit well and allow the tailgate to open and close smoothly when no bike is loaded? I can’t see how the Velcro straps work on the pad but you may be able to get some longer ones from Yakima or find some non-Yakima straps to more securely hold your bike

Nice job adjusting the pad so that the backup camera works. Do the tailgate straps still fit going around the bike’s down tube to hold it in place?
