Trust that your neighbors certainly do NOT have a better vehicle. All FORD jokes and nitpicks aside, 90% (a safe 80%?) of FORDs will still be on the road in 10 years. Do you see many 2012 Model S'? Nope. And if you do they are dirt cheap for a plethora of reasons.

It's just a normal cold operating mode with the software in the valve timing. Because it's an Atkinson cycle engine the cam timing can adjust to extreme differences and it sounds quite a bit different. It usually snaps out of it at some point. If it were a problem your check engine light would be on.
