Get the Subaru. The Ford scheduling incompetence means that you're going to wait at least a year.

Like some have said, Allocations! If the dealer doesn't have allocations they can order all they want. It probably won't get built anytime soon. They are happy to take your order. They won't mention allocations or especially that they don't have any! We looked all over New England and eastern NY. Check dealer web sites for up to date inventory. More are coming in every day. (Ford.com inventory is about 75% wrong!)
We did find a couple to test drive so we know what we like and don't like.
We live in New Hampshire but ordered from Granger in Iowa. (XLT, hybrid w/lux pkg) We were scheduled for a build 2 days later. Have a March build date. $1000 under MSRP. You will find in New England many are marking up. Some as much as $5000!

Currently we have a 2018 Forester. We love it. We just decided we should get a new vehicle while this still has some resale value, and before it starts having issues. We drove a new crosstrek and a new Forester. We don't like how all the safety/self driving stuff in the Subaru's feel. Our other vehicle is a Western Star semi truck, so we are used to driving things that feel different. 😉
Everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to vehicles. Just gotta figure out which things mean more to her since she will be the main one driving it.
Definitely find a Maverick and drive it! (I think she will love it. (The seating is also quite upright much like the Forester) Even if its not exactly the same packages you would buy, you still get a good idea.
Find a new Forester and drive it too.
Preferably in the same day when both are fresh in her mind.
Let us know how it goes!

Well.. wife drove the Forrester and really liked it, she thought the Mav was too long, too much for what she needed as daily driver and hauling stuff.

@Ozarkbeard cvt’s were problematic about 10 years ago but the recent generation tranny’s are fine. Now whether anyone likes how cvt drives is a diff discussion. Based on my research the current B25 engines variant is improved from prior versions. Anyways thanks all for the input, maybe I’ll trade it in a few years from now for a Mav…;)
