When Chuck Norris goes in the ocean, he doesn't get wet. The ocean gets Chuck Norrised.
Chuck Norris doesn't go hunting.
That implies the possibility of failure.
Chuck Norris goes killing.

I suppose I could have used better words than to say I hated cursive. I tried to make a strong point but it seems to have upset some people stuck in the past.
Hmm Mr Vandelay, how to respond? Perhaps permit me to adopt a Sid Farkus personna before continuing.... okay I'm ready:

I can write in cursive faster than I can print. I make no apologies for continuing to use it. I accept that the current generation doesn't write in cursive, but they'd better figure out how to read cursive. Are we really going to pretend the young developing mind is that limited? Or that it would take some obscene measures to help children recognize and interpret cursive? Or is that part of the goal... to have generations who can't read the original text of the declaration of independence, constitution, bill of rights, or old letters from predecessors and ancestors? We are needlessly hamstringing children by not challenging their young minds. Disappointed in NYS as they seem to be following VT's lead (don't even give homework in gradeschool in Burlington VT). Pretty soon NY kids will perform like AZ kids (that's not a good thing...).. Oh wait AI is going to be the great equalizer... never mind.

To appreciate the past, to continue to find value in things from the past, to find them useful, is not being stuck in the past. I think your 'enlightment and growth' is making you a bit arrogant, looking down on the rest of us who desire to have a continued appreciation and utility for that which came before us. I was born in 1969, and work as an automation and controls engineer, heavily leaning into IT/OT who programs in no less than 12 languages... and I write notes in cursive (pen flows effortlessly with my thoughts), I learned to type on a manual typewriter (manual dexterity / muscle memory tuning), and I'm bilingual (which is a whole 'nuther thing for exercising your grey matter). I don't consider myself all that smart, but at least I'm not afraid of learning new and 'old' things alike.

Okay... I'll get off my soap box and release Sid Farkus of any responsibility for any of the viewpoints expressed above.

As an aside... Alto Blue was always an underappreciated color on the Maverick. I'm always impressed by it when I see it in person.

Now where were we with the Tips for Newbies? Did we make a passing grade in 'Search Tool Proficiency' a prerequisite for new applicants? And how did cursive get involved? LOL

Very difficult to implement either action via a keyboard....

Unless people are required to take a forum use test prior to using the forum, it's just a bit naive to expect them to know much about how a forum can be most effectively used.

There is always that option to ignore a post and let someone else be helpful.

I hadn't even read your post so it wasn't intended for you, or anybody in particular for that matter. 😄

PhD or Ph.D. spelled out is philosophiae doctor. Had to do a search for that one:)
I find it interesting that both abbreviations are stated as "phd" without punctuation, and when either is used as an acronym, they are both pronounced "fud". ;)

It might be... and mine often achieves near exceptional drought level ..
but really I was teasing back at you.... i fully appreciated the difficulty in adminstering my hypothetical throat punches and knees to the groin remotely via a keyboard. :D

All I'm going to say is that thinking about this more, I'm shocked that anyone can be arguing over cursive in the year 2026 and that includes myself. The whole thing got out hand quickly.

Alto Blue is such a great color. In a lot of lighting most people think it's black but when it's clean and the sun hits it the gleam of that dark blue paint with little sparkles is incredible. It was apparently not a very popular color though.

Nah, I never took it as serious arguing... very dry, very playful banter maybe... However, I could have done better and shouldn't have taken such liberties with some of the expressions... Maybe we can add TIp 11: Don't defend meaningless drivel like Art and Fisch!

A few of the Maverick / Bronco Sport colors are subtle in their presentation. From a distance, you couldn't tell that Cyber Orange was metallic at all. Really just looked like school bus yellow enamel. However, upon closer examination, it had some sparkles that jumped out.

Just a summation that would also align with the on topic thread admonition, which happens to us all at some point... ;)

Why teach anything that requires discipline and practice? AI can do everything. Why do we even need school? Just give everyone a phone and let the phone figure it out.
Exactly!!! ChatGBT can tell us what we will need to know, like…
Question: Is dinner best found by overturning a log or a rock?
Answer:
  • If you are looking for insects or small invertebrates, you might find them under a rock or a log Common finds can include worms, grubs, beetles, or even scorpions, which could be consumed as a food source.
  • If you are looking for mushrooms, they are often found near logs, but overturning a log is not necessary and many mushrooms are poisonous.
Question: Is safer to sleep under an overpass or in an abandoned building?
Answer:
Sleeping under an overpass is dangerous due to several factors:
  • Exposure: You are exposed to the elements (weather, cold, heat) and the environment (traffic noise, pollution).
  • Traffic Hazards: The proximity to fast-moving traffic increases the risk of accidents.
  • Visibility: You are highly visible to law enforcement and the general public, which may lead to being moved or facing legal issues.
  • Vulnerability: You are vulnerable to crime and violence from others due to your exposed location.
Sleeping in an abandoned building also has serious dangers:
  • Structural Instability: The building might have compromised structural integrity, increasing the risk of collapse, falling debris, or unsafe floors/roofs.
  • Environmental Hazards: You may encounter hazardous materials such as mold, asbestos, lead paint, exposed wiring, and broken glass.
  • Pests and Disease: Abandoned buildings often have infestations of rodents, insects, and other pests that carry diseases.
  • Hidden Dangers: The presence of drug activity or other illegal activities within the building can pose a threat to your safety.
Question: Are zombies real?
Answer:
While rabies is often cited as the closest real-world analog to a "zombie virus," a widespread rabies epidemic is highly unlikely. Key Similarities to "Zombies"
  • Behavioral Changes: In "furious" rabies cases (about 70–80% of infections), patients can exhibit extreme aggression, agitation, and confusion.
  • Physical Symptoms: The virus causes hypersalivation (excessive drooling) and hydrophobia (fear of water), leading to painful throat spasms that prevent swallowing, much like the mindless behavior seen in movies.
  • Transmission: Like fictional zombies, rabies is primarily transmitted through the saliva of an infected individual, typically via a bite.
