Maverick ordered December 2021 from Port Orchard Ford in WA. Moved to SC and had to battle to get them to agree to courtesy deliver. Finally arrives at Summerville Ford. When I go to pick up they say they can't give me temp tags (due to a SCDMV rule in 2020) and won't release it to me until the real plates come in. I can't find anything to support this and am ready to go to war again. Anyone else run into this issue?

When I got a CD the dealer I bought it from Chapman Ford in PA gave me a PA temp tag though I live in NC. Everything was good until my NC plate arrived. I'd contact the dealer you bought it from and get a temp tag from them.

Temp tag would generally be issued by the selling dealer, that's my understanding. The courtesy delivery dealer would be unable to issue one unless your local state laws are loose. Many states require temp plates to be registered to the state instead of just a handwritten date, and the dealer needs to be the one selling the vehicle to issue it.

My state won't even allow them to issue a temp plate if transferring a plate.

WA dealer has released interest of the vehicle. WA temp plates would be invalid in SC. Still I cant find anything that actually limits their ability to use their SC temp plates for CD vehicles. I think they are fibbing, blank temp tags are in short supply. No one at the dealership can site a new rule.

That makes some sense but she stated I couldn't get a temp tag, period. NOT true, I got one at the DMV this morning.

Love to see the LOOK on your dealers face when you walked in with that!

*UPDATE*
Got a temp tag at the DMV, no one there had any idea why the dealer wouldn't do it for me. Go the dealer to pick me up, sat down... DMV put a "B" where an "8" should be... Associate said "no I cant release the vehicle to you"...
Got a ride back home. got back to the DMV as it closed, they were like "so what" "just write it in". I told them that wouldn't suffice for this lady at the dealership. They were out of 45 day temp tags and gave me a 30 day...
2 trips to the DMV and one trip to and from the dealership, maybe tomorrow I can drive the truck I bought 3 weeks ago...
Also my ordeal has caught the attention of the family lawyer... get the popcorn ready...

They were a bit beside themselves and at a loss for my questions, but I just finished a full day of work and just wanted out of there. Lucky for me the DMV messed up the VIN and I got a free ride home, empty handed! FML! I just want my truck!
