Tail Gate Lock install issue

Here is the part that is in the way were the lock would go do i have to remove the black part ?

Yes, you would need to remove the bracket in order for you to be able to install the lock. Keep the torx bolt and just reinstall the bolt into the hole after you remove the bracket. Since you will then have the lock to keep the tailgate from coming off the hinge, the bracket that is installed at the factory to do the same thing is no longer necessary.

I reinstalled the bracket on mine and it never messed with the tailgate function or the lock.
