I'm looking at adding a set of 3" LED light pods to the rear bumber. My options are to tie into the reverse light wiring so that the pods come on automatically when the truck goes into reverse. The alternative is to wire the pods to a switch inside the cabin drawing power from the 12V battery. What I lack for this last option is knowledge of how to route wiring from the rear though the back wall and into the interior. Can anyone Help? I understand that the negative post of the 12V under the seat should not be used as a ground. Does that also hold true for the positive terminal as a power source?

A cleaner option would be to route the wire under the vehicle following the existing harness, into the engine bay, then through the firewall to a switch mounted in the cabin. Ideally, I'd tap into the OEM backup light wiring near the fusebox, to a switch in the dash, to a relay, and then 12 volts from under the hood to the relay then to the lights. If the switch is in the ON position, the lights come on and off with the OEM reverse lights. If the switch is in the OFF position, they do not come on with the OEM lights. There are probably going to be times where you don't want/need all that extra light.

Use the backup light circuit to switch a relay, powering the lights from the existing 12v accessory circuit in the bed. No need to run inside the cab at all. If you have the 7 pin trailer plug it is even easier as all circuits plus 12v power are there.
