Requesting my deposit back for build order

So I bought two Mavericks this weekend...

I want an XL with the 4K towing package, but there just aren't any in stock at dealerships. My local dealer sales guy offered to custom order one for me and I'd just have to eat the 6 month delay. I agreed and put a $500 deposit down.

The next day a dealer one state over said they have the exact same truck arriving in 3-4 weeks and so I put a deposit down on it too.

So I'm just documenting here the process of cancelling the custom order and seeing if I get the deposit back. I was told verbally it's a refundable deposit but there isn't any terms or paperwork to prove it, so we'll just have to see.

I felt a good bit of anxiety about running up against sales pitches, but the local dealer has actually been great to work with. Looking forward to giving them business in the future. Should of waited on second one till it hit the lot,I was told 2-3 months,been 8!

That would be great! My truck's window sticker has a blend date of 4/15/25. The website said "3-4 weeks" which seems generic. Would love to have it in two!

I was lucky enough to have a great dealership to find the one I wanted and never trying to put me in something other than the color and options that I wanted. They went to work right away and found one for me. I paid less than sticker and it was delivered to the dealership the next day. He wanted a deposit but I told him you get the truck here and I’ll buy it. I refused because I have had trouble in the past with the deposit situation. It worked well for both of us. I bought local and he made the sale. The best dealership ever.

You entered into contracts with 2 dealers. They can make you honor the contract but probably you will just lose $500.

You're right. But I got lucky and they refunded the deposit. Second post in the thread.
