I have a '23 Marverick XLT without the luxury package and I wanted to install an outlet to the truck bed. I really want to make sure I know what I'm doing before making a mistake with electrical, and I was hoping for some thoughts from everyone.

I watched this video Ford Maverick Hybrid DIY Power Generator?

And saw the person is using a 1500W pure sine wave inverter 12v to 110v. That seems to work for everything he needs and is demonstrating in that video, but I am turned off by how hot/warm he makes it out to be. I want to have my inverter sit behind the seat (like how it is with the actual luxury package), without having to worry about excess heat. On the other side, I want to make sure that what I want to do is achievable with the hardware I select AND that I don’t give myself risk for fire or something. I am not looking to power tools or heat guns. I just need something for a charger, or air pump.

I found this 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter that looks like what I need. If I followed the instructions in the video, and added this power outlet to the driver-side truck bed panel. Would that be safe? Would that provide enough power?

Additionally, what kind of risks are there for draining the battery? I saw there are features of the car that turn it off after a period of time, but are configurable(?) I would be interested in looking into that, but the most important thing is working and safe outlet in truck bed

I have read posts on here, where guys have run inverters for up to 24 hours, with no problems. I do not believe that they had to do anything to the software. I just got myself a 5500 W inverter. I ran an air conditioner off of it with no problems. Hope this helps!

If you want the outlet in the truck bed, put the inverter somewhere else? like one of the cubbies in the far back. Seems not prudent to put it in the cabin.

From what I have read, the luxury package puts the inverter behind the back rest of the back seat on the passenger side - not far from that 12v battery. I figured using that location would work, as it works for Ford. I do see what you mean about having the inverter closer to where the outlet will be, but won't that require longer and thicker cables?

That is great to hear! It's good to know that the truck can handle powering the outlet for at least 24 hours, that's so much more than my use case. I do wonder what safeguards are in place in the battery is close to drained, but that is a different problem than installation.

How do you like the 5500W inverter? does it get hot? Do you have any issues with it tripping or not being powerful enough? (I dont suspect you would with 5500W, but It's worth asking)

Well, one of the things that is so good about the hybrid, is that as the battery gets low the engine will cycle back on to charge it, then shut down once it’s charged. I love the 5500 W inverter. It powers a 3000 W portable air conditioner with no problems. Does not get hot or anything in the least.
