Gas Struts

I installed 4PCS D Rings Heavy Duty & Tie Down Anchor on my tailgate. I used a small tie wrap to keep it from rattling.

I would rather keep the price of the tailgate assist damper low and choose my own replacement tailgate tie down. Something that I deem sufficient.
Another example of why we should keep them separate. If I ever have to replace the tailgate damper, I have no reason to replace a tie down.

When you install a tailgate assist damper, you're going to have to remove one of the factory tie downs. When replacing it.
For overall strength, you can't beat a tie down that is attached at two points. the top and the side. Such as this one that is built and sold by Lane one of our own members.

And it should be clearly stated for new owners so they don't order and find it out later. My bed extender requires these tiedowns. Learned the hard way and wasted time.

I agree, with our short box a lot of hauling is done with the tailgate down. I would rather have the tie down than the damper.
