Washington Potential sell-new XLT tremor avalanche gray Seattle area

Hi Maverick truck club!
Anyone in the Seattle/Washington area interested in a new XLT Tremor in Avalanche gray? I'm debating if I want to take it or wait the year for a hybrid. It's currently delivered and I can pickup Monday.

See window sticker XLT tremor with manual window, SIBL, rails. Avalanche grey which will be discontinued MY24. Added half of window sticker with the options and cost.

Not sure how I'd transfer this car over to interested person bc releasing it to dealer would mean they can markup.

Understood. I am evaluating buy and resell, not exactly sure how the tax works in this situation. Ask a little on top for my time/reservation, not the markup if I let it go to the dealer.

You're talking about two transactions. Unless your state doesn't have sales tax, there will be tax on both transactions. You buy the truck from the dealer and you pay sales tax. You sell your truck to an individual and they pay sales tax. Both of these transactions must occur for you to transfer ownership. Even if you "just want a little on top for your time", it will be thousands over MSRP to cover taxes and fees you paid.

My internet advice is buy the truck and trade it in when your hybrid arrives or just let the dealer have this one. It won't be worth your time or headache to do what you're proposing.

Just to further put this into perspective. MSRP is $32,945. If you buy it from the dealer you will pay tax, title, license, doc fee, etc. I would estimate you end up at about $37k give or take. Now you want to sell it to someone and make a couple hundred bucks, say you sell it for $37,250. But you probably have to hang onto it for about 30 days for everything to process, unless you pay cash -- maybe you can be ready to sell it a little sooner. So you end up either paying cash or financing the truck and holding onto it for a month and then deal with selling it. All for a couple hundred bucks. New owner has to pay tax and fees when you sell it.

The alternative is the dealer sells it -- maybe for MSRP, but more likely for a $5k markup or $38k. The new owner has to pay tax, title, license, etc. there as usual.

There really is no savings to the buyer and no money made by you- you just have a lot of hassle added to you and the buyer. Hate to see dealer markups, but I just don't think it works out otherwise.

Now that could be a benefit. Not only do you get to enjoy the truck (you wanted it at one point!), you give yourself some time to decide if you want to keep it. If you decide not to keep it when the hybrid comes in, not only is there a chance you get most all your money back or maybe even more, but you get the tax benefit of a trade-in. Typically that means you only pay tax on the difference between your trade and the new truck, which in the case of going from a Tremor to a hybrid could be even or even negative. Not sure what happens there but it's positive for you!

Not sure about WA, but this is not necessarily true in all states. My state doesn't charge sales tax on private party sales. So they could work something out where the private party pays for MSRP + tax the OG guy paid, and it could work itself out. Also, in NV you could cancel the reg and get a credit for MOST of it, would still be out like $100 probably, but could add that on as well. The credit would have to go to another registration within a year, however.

See if the dealer will issue a 30 day temp tag, that way you get the title. tell them your thinking of moving to Montana , Alaska , or any other no tax .

In some states, you don't pay sales tax until you register the vehicle. Maybe you could buy the truck and use 30-day temporary plates to resell it.

Thanks ejgroth2620! Very interesting, I’ll research for WA and ask the dealership if they issue temp tags. And if / when the sales tax is paid upon registration or possession of vehicle.
