I have ordered a Maverick Tremor at a US dealership that is not scheduled and probably will not be until Spring at the earliest, early summer probably. I am now looking at a job move to Calgary, Alberta on a temporary work permit from the US that, if it happens, will probably be before the Maverick arrives. Will there be a problem bringing the Maverick to Canada? How much money will it cost? Will I have to pay state sales tax in the US and GST when I drive the Maverick to Canada?

If you are on a work permit, you can temporarily bring your personal vehicle here for up to 3 years without having to fully "import" it. You won't be allowed to sell it in Canada, and after 3 years or when your visa expires, you'll have to take it back to the U.S.

Get a plate from your state when you pick up your Mav, registered for long enough to go through the below process (could take up to a month or two). You'll have to pay state sales tax at this time.

To bring it up here you need to fill out a Form 1 (checking the box that says you're a temporary worker) and bring a copy of your work permit to the border. They'll inspect the vehicle for eligibility (pretty much all new vehicles are fine) and give you a E29B permit. Once in, you'll have to go to a shop and get a safety inspection. This, together with the form 1 and E29B, will allow you to get it plated in Alberta.

There are a few small fees for the above, but you won't need to pay Canadian tax/duty or anything like that.

To sell it, or when your Canadian visa expires, you'll have to bring it back to the U.S. - Canada Border Services will cancel your Form 1 and E29B, and then you can go back to a state DMV to have it re-plated as an American vehicle - the AB plates get sent back to Canada or are destroyed, and you're done.

Hope this helps! (I've done this going both ways, so pretty familiar with the process)

p.s. I hope you have a Lux package with the heated seats, mirrors, and wipers. If you're not scheduled, might also want to consider adding remote start and a block heater!! 🥶

Ordered XLT Lux Tremor like you. Not sure about remote start as can use Ford app. Block heater- maybe. See yours is scheduled late January.

If you are going to be in Alberta, you're going want a block heater for winter, which can end as late as sometime in June depending on where you are.

Added a block heater as relatively inexpensive.

Another lesser issue- as it will be built to US specs, will have a MPH speedometer. I believe the speedometers are analog dials, not images on a LCD screen. So how difficult to change to KPH speedometer?

There is an analog speedo, yes. You can have the speed on the drivers info LCD if so desired. It can be set to MPH or KM/H, at least on the Canadian vehicles.

When I imported my US born wife, she came with a VW Jetta built for the US. We had to have it inspected and all of that jazz but because the speedometer had both Mph and Km/h on it we did not have to have it changed out.

Moving to a new country can be an exciting adventure! When it comes to bringing your vehicle to Canada, it's important to consider customs regulations and associated costs. I recommend reaching out to the Canadian customs authority or a trusted vehicle import service to get detailed information on the import process, taxes, and any fees involved. They'll be able to guide you through the necessary steps and provide accurate estimates of the expenses. As for taxes, it's possible that you may have to pay state sales tax in the US and Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Canada, but it's best to confirm with the authorities. Also, you can consult with professional movers who provide international moving services. Here's the link to one of the companies you can contact: https://threemovers.com/commercial-movers/
