I know that you can call the automated system for rail tracking after your order shipped. This system is very limited.

I have seen from other threads there are some members here that have access to VINview(dealer tool) or have a Union Pacific account to track rail cars.

Perhaps those willing to help other track their cars in more detail would be willing to reply here and take requests?

VINView is dealer only. If your dealer isn't willing to share updates, then tracking through the rail is your next best way. If you search Google for Rail Tracking there are links for all the web services. I think you have to create an account as a business. I'm not sure if they let you track any railcar or only freight that is tied to your business. I haven't bothered since I am seeing relatively good progress through CSX's phone service. Mine made it to St Louis area this morning. It is possible that only the higher up managers can see VINView. It seemed like my salesman couldn't see or share it.

EDIT: Another option may be to do a free trial here:
https://www.freightverify.com/free-trial
I don't know if that's a one time track, a week trial, or what...

+1 for would be nice if a dealer on here could hook us up. My "salesman" couldn't do anything BUT deflect when I tried to ask him to add my number to tracking via VINView. Then again, dude is like 80 and I'm not sure he knows how to use "the internet."

BTW, I signed up for the free trial I mentioned above and haven't heard back at all since Friday. I will update if they ever get back to me.

my trusted sales guy showed me VinView freely- don't think it's restricted. Each sales rep can look at the vehicles in process at their dealership daily. They can see if 1 has been selected for production, in the factory, built, shipped and in transit using VIN or order#. I don't think there is anything special to add for tracking beyond that.

Maybe I misremembered, but I thought I saw a post on here previously that VINview would give updates by text for shipping/your railcar. Obviously salesman needs to put in your number to get updates.

I have my Norfolk Southern car, I just would have preferred getting text updates than me calling every day. Going to be out of town at the end of my delivery window, so wanted to track it's progress as we get closer.

you still have undetermined wait time after rail car arrives at destination. Has to be "received" at the yard, then wait to be loaded on transport truck. That will show as "in transit" on VinView and will be the actual trip to your dealer. Mine took like 4 weeks completing all that.

My dealer didn't mention anything about text updates, but I had already received my truck before they had VinView running.
