Now I wish I'd kept the extender from my Spor Trac! It was far more robust that the cheap Chinese version I got from Amazon. How did you handle the different mounting method and the locking mechanism the ST extender uses? The Maverick doesn't have the holes where a Sport Trac mount would go.
The existing lower, pre drilled hole was in the exact spot for the Trac Extender bolt. I just tapped it to the right size and used bolts from the Sport Trac. Haven't bothered with drilling holes for the little stops as I don't think they're really necessary.

I really liked the locking mechanism the Trac used to keep the extender in the up/down position. The straps used by the new extenders are kind of a kludge in my opinion and don't keep the extender down firmly.

That would work though I'd think you'd need to drill some holes in the Maverick to accommodate the locking pins. That said, the Sport Trac extender if you can find one is much better constructed and robust.
yep, bushings need a hole to call home. I'd paint the raw edges and allow to completely dry.

Installed the aftermarket because the shape of the Ford Accessory was too restrictive (not squared off in the corners) so it impedes carrying long loads.

This is the one I ordered, but any of the squared off type should be good to install:

The pic shows it folded in making a great storage area. I also installed the Ford Accessory bed mat. All works great.

I see a good variety of bed extenders on Amazon for about $179.00. The Ford OEM version is more than double that. Is there a reason to spend the extra for the Ford version? I can live w/I the Ford logo in it.

I installed the Rough Country and then installed a shell. The latches on the shell's rear window interfere with the Rough Country extender when flipping from inside to outside. It looks like the factory extender narrows pretty quickly, and I assume that is to avoid the latches. If no shell, the Rough Country works great!
