Called X-Terrain from Amazon:

The straight middle, or center, pieces are very tight. So I had to use moly grease on the ends and work them in and out of the right-angled pieces. Once together and installed, all is good. Not sure how other brands are. I decided to get the aftermarket because it is more square than the Ford Accessory extender.
Besides needing to grease the center pieces, did you need to do any cutting (of the extender itself) or cutting through the bed liner? If yes, any issues for you? I also have an FE so I'd be in same boat for installation. Thx in advance!

Same here. I have the extender in the box waiting to be assembled. Any tips/tricks would be appreciated. 😊

No cutting. The fit was getting tighter, so the moly grease helped the install.

Might liquid dish soap do it? Could then easily wash off.

Installed the third party (X-Terrain from Amazon} extender today. As it is a universal model designed to fit many trucks, it will need to made as small as possible to fit the Maverick. Had I to do it again I would cut about 3" off the center tubes to make inserting them in the other tubes easier. Even with soap and taps with a rubber mallet, mine was very tight and could have been a tad smaller.
This extender is rather whimpy compared to the factory OEM model I had on my 2003 Explorer Sport Trac, but I think it will be ok. The Sport Trac extender also had a much better way to secure it not using the straps these new models have.

I have the SIBL, Lariat Lux, also added the bed mat, about 1/4" thick, will this still fit under the tonneau cover?
Thanks!

How secure are these? Do you need tools to remove? Just worried about theft if I were to leave it on all the time. Thx in advance!

No tools to remove. Just some pins to secure the extender in it's bracket. If someone really wanted it, sure, it's easy to remove. Mine will be under a locking tonneau however.

Yup. No clearance issues with the tonneau cover. Just need to fold back the cover when moving extender to inside position. When you look at the photo, you will notice I have another mat on top of the bed mat (for easier clean up).

I ordered the OEM bed extender with my XLT Hybrid Lux.

The pros are that snap in straps are the perfect length and when its in use it is very tight to the tailgate and does not bounce or shift at all. Also the OEM is not held in by any bolts or pins. It is a slide in and out L bracket which is very convenient when I need to take it out for whatever reason.

Unfortunately the shape is not very square so you don't really get as much extra space as you would like when its in use.

The OEM version is probably not worth the price tag from Ford when compared to many of the aftermarket ones but I am certainly not disappointed with it. It has come in handy when I picked up firewood and when I helped my father haul wine from his winery to a festival. If the it was a little more square I might have been able to fit 15 more logs or a few more cases of wine so the difference is minimal.

A perk from the non-squared OEM model I've found is when roadtripping with my wife our carry-on sized luggage is nice and tight in the middle but then when it swoops out it fits the checked bag sized luggage on each side quite well as well.

2001-2005 Ford Sport Trac OEM Bed Extender fits nicely.
I found this one for $13 at a local salvage.

Now I wish I'd kept the extender from my Spor Trac! It was far more robust that the cheap Chinese version I got from Amazon. How did you handle the different mounting method and the locking mechanism the ST extender uses? The Maverick doesn't have the holes where a Sport Trac mount would go.
