Maybe you can just buy the black XL grill trim and custom black wheels, but I gave it a shot for science.

I like that way that looks, I'd even take the grey XLT trim piece.

I like the gray XLT piece as well, especially on carbonized gray, but I’m warming up to the silver on lariat since it’s kind of a matte silver and not shiny chrome like I thought it was. We’ll see when we get it!

I don't mind the matte silver on the Lariat. I'd have a huge issue if it were actual chrome plated.

Also, if you wanted to use your magic computer skills to do this on a carbonized gray Mav, I wouldn’t be mad… 😁🥺

A lot of money having to buy and then turn around and plasti-dip or paint something. When I was younger I bought a new F150 and painted the grill and bumper. After driving through a few rain storms and bugs hitting the front end it started to peel. Yes, I didn't prep as i should have but it looked like crap, especially being a new truck. Prep is a key to getting it to look nice. You might consider what will eventually hit the aftermarket, as far as grills/inserts.

Yes, prep is key. It can easily look awful as soon as you do it. Ours looked really good even a couple years later. Luckily if it starts to look bad you can just peel it off and redo it. Or use vinyl wrap which is more difficult to put on but way easy to remove.

I plan to buy some black wheels for summer and use the OEM’s for a winter tire as well as swap out the silver bar for the black bar from the XL. Definitely going to get a tint on the windows and possibly even the headlight and taillights to hide the chrome inside them. Against the cactus grey I think it will look great.

It is SO hard to get stuff out of your head from when you were a kid. Growing up in the 50s and 60s, if you had black wheels it meant you were too cheap to have nice alloys or even wheel covers. My gray Maverick XLT wheels will wear winter tires and I'll get some machined alloys for the factory all season tires... gotta have some sparkle when they rotate😁!
I will admit that my all time favorite wheels are American Racing Torq-Thrust Ds, they have a polished rim and charcoal spokes... not available for FWD vehicles.
