Muffler recommendations

I know that there now several options out for cat back exhausts but they are more than I want to spend. Has anyone just replaced just the muffler and down turn and if so what did you put on? I am not expecting a performance gain, I just want a little more noise. I was thinking along the lines of a turbo style muffler.

Well you will get noise thats for sure.muffler shop can do it with no problem .from my experience buy a top quality brand and you should be fine to go .cheap and you learn the hard way why its cheap.

I did this years back on a Cavalier I bought as a commuter. I think I put a Thrush turbo muffler on it. I actually got compliments on how it sounded but it only lasted 2-3 years before rotting out.

Ahh, the old woody woodpecker muffler. Did not think they made them anymore. Thought the were always just to loud. I have a Camaro and put a Flowmaster on it sounds great. But it is V8 muscle car.

I bought an FX Series Flowmaster which supposedly has a very mellow sound. All I have to do is figure out how to fit the pipes and hang the muffler so it looks reasonably professional.

So installed this muffler at the end of the system and it sounds virtually the same. I realized when I cut the original one off and started it that it was just a resonator but by that time I was already committed. I guess I will need to replace the actual muffler with a straight pipe and then see how it sounds.
