Mt Lemmon to Oracle/San Manuel

Hi, all...Short trip report here: We drove the Mt Lemmon to Oracle/San Manuel 4WD road yesterday in our FX4 AWD with 235/65r17 All-Terrains. Lots of mud as we hit a small bit of rain. Me and my son rode MTBs ahead while my wife followed in the truck. I spotted her on maybe four rocky sections—there is one obstacle that requires driving close to the edge of a drop off and proper tire placement. Truck did it in Mud/Ruts mode with lots AWD engagement. Scraped driver's side underbody panel (those felt/carpet things) and put a small hole. Otherwise, truck did fantastic and has really surprised me! The section in the image below is how the road is for most of the way. Pretty fun, do-able trip.

LOVE that 2 hour ride up to Summerhaven, especially "the back way"! Fun fact: You will pass through the same climate zones in elevation, going up the mountain,, as if you drove from the Sonoran desert to the arctic taiga ! Yeah, I am a geek!

So, that is VERY cool to learn because we were shocked at the temp/landscape change coming from Tucson. There are some other cool forest roads to do up there and we are excited to come back and camp a few nights...
