I feel you man.
I hate having to turn on Siri for CarPlay. But all the other google apps and stuff work without Siri (or google assistant).

Update:

There steering wheel controls will still work in the Ai box mode. The "call" button activates google assistant and I was able to skip and go back on YouTube videos.

Of course the volume up and down buttons still control volume.

I can’t speak to this specific model but I have an AI Box too and it is totally worth it. Can leave my wife and kids watching TV, while I’m filling up or in a store. No more “Are you done yet?”.

No messing around with cables and it operates completely stand-alone, running any app. you want. I put a cellular sim in it and it is way better than any Ford Sync system, with the ability to seamlessly switch between Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Android 12.

Question, if you use one of these devices(that are Sim capable) with a separate cell SIM card, will you then get calls on that line instead of your main phone line?

I have a spare phone line that I could use the SIM off of for data but I would want my main phone for calls and texts.

Which device do you have?

I have an Iphone. I have not tried, but it seems you can use a SIM card same way you use it on an android pad. When in Ai mode, it will be the "phone" associated with the SIM card. When in CarPlay mode, it will be the phone connected via bluetooth.

I know that Google Fi will allow you two (2) four (4) data-only sim cards per account. They allow you to connect for data, but do not have a phone number associated. They're used for tablets, but we used them in older iphones that still used sim cards. (the kids could use imessage, but didn't have a phone number)

Maybe your phone service provider has a data-only sim card you can order. Ours were free and they were happy to provide them since you paid by the Gb for data that you used.

Thanks. I prefer Android for sideloading apps, but use an iPhone occasionally as well.

Yeah, I have a free line on T-Mobile with Unlimited everything. Not sure this would be any better for me.

I currently use my Android phone with Screen2Auto, or jailbroken iphone with carbridge to display anything my phone can display.
