You can’t properly lift a Mav to effectively make use of larger tires nor can you get lockers or utilize a 4low with an AWD vehicle That’s the point.
But you can lift it to fit larger tires and if you drive it offroad they will be better the bigger they are so you are making use of them. My AMC Eagles do just fine offroad without lockers or low range. Infact I have only had 1 vehicle with lockers( a lincoln locker) and a few with limited slip. I used to go wheeling (in jeeps, broncos, rangers) every weekend and was usually the one doing the biggest stuff.

The Mav traction control system does seem to work pretty decently braking the spinning tire, and we've seen it tackle things even the Subaru Outback Wilderness offroad edition couldn't handle.

What's nice about this video is that they show the reality too, that any adventure involves getting there first with lots of highway cruising and they give proper weight to that as well. There also isn't anywhere they went that the Maverick couldn't handle, except when they intentionally went out of their way to find a deep ditch and took the most difficult line through it. He also rightly points out that even though the Tacoma looks like its a mile high, the ground clearance difference isn't that much because the Maverick is a more space efficient unibody whereas the Tacoma essentially has to ride on top of its frame.

So tl;dw version is that the Maverick was more comfy on the highway, it had no problem getting through any part of the adventure off the beaten path, and it did so with greater efficiency at the sacrifice of some comfort going fast on the rough stuff.
