If anyone is interested in any of our products and knows how to make a quality YouTube style installation video we offer cash back after completion of the video . You must send the file over and as long as it’s good enough for me to use on the site we pay up to $75 for a video depending on the install and difficulty of the install of the product. . Mavericks are very easy to get to the Audiocontrol module as it’s only one panel. Video must be shot in full screen, showing step-by-step the removal of any panels and parts to get to where our kits are plugged into, including mounting location of the product as well as routing of power, wire and ground if needed.. if you have any questions or are interested, you can reach out to me directly at [email protected] or call m-f 10-6 est 203-889-1843

While installation videos can be very helpful, I also prefer illustrated written instructions that I can have at hand during the installation. I don't have a laptop, and it can be hard to view videos on a phone and having to keep pausing the video as the installation progresses.

I spent several hours compiling a detailed illustrated PDF document covering the installation of the Kicker 200.4 amp and associated wiring harnesses for the Maverick. I sent it to Joe a couple weeks ago to see if he wanted to use it to send to customers, as the instructions I got when I bought the plugnplay kit were pretty much useless and had errors. No reply after a week so I sent a reminder a week later, and still no reply. All I had asked for in return was a moderate discount on a Kicker sub when I was ready to order one.

Oh well, I was very pleased with the ordering experience from PlugNPlayKits, prompt responses from my questions and the kit was ordered on a Sunday and shipped the next day

For a professionally filmed and edited video I would agree that $75 would be on the low side as it could involve many hours of labor, and I speak from 40+ years in the audio/video production business.

While there are many great DIY videos online and on YouTube, many leave a lot to be desired - there are "videographers" that have no idea what a tripod is or how to use one. Many will try and hold a camera/phone with one hand and go through the installation process with the other hand. Other videos I have seen skip important steps or speed through them. And don't get me started on the language barrier...

I totally agree! A good video of an installation includes the following:

Edits that stop and start when going from one phase of the process to the other! We don't need to see you walking from one point to the other, jiggling the camera all along the way!!

Tripods

Steady photography of what the point of focus is!

Good sound of the narrator, not background noise and a voice that is included!

Sharp videos, none of this blurry crap

I've been a professional videographer for about 15 years and agree with everyone else. If the person puts in the effort to do a good job filming, editing, and explaining things, you're asking for a decent amount of work that will be of great value to your business but offering very little in return.

I've not purchased any replacement harnesses but have run dashcam and other wires in my truck, so I have some idea of how long it can take to remove parts without breaking them. You can easily double if not triple the time when you add in a camera to film it, especially if you're trying to show things clearly and from multiple angles when needed. For a 1 - 1.5 minute instructional video like this I'd probably charge about $550 to start (roughly 1 hour filming & 3 hours editing - about the minimum I'd do for a smaller job, and this is doing it solo without another person to help out), plus fees for background music, scripting, voice over, storage fees, and commercial licensing fees. To be honest, I don't usually add licensing fees because I'm in a small city working mostly with other small businesses and non-profits. But in bigger cities it's a lot more common to see pre-production fees and licensing fees which can easily add another 50% - 200% to the total cost, depending on a number of factors.

I'm not trying to give you a hard time, if you're not familiar with video production it can be surprising how long it takes to capture good shots and put it all together in a way that is clear and makes sense, especially when it's educational / tutorial content. I only mention all of this to give you an idea of what it would normally cost for what you're asking for. And here's the nice thing about working in trade (at least, on your end): the filming and editing costs are mostly all labor so will be what they are, but you can offer your products in trade at retail value, which means you're getting a discount equal to the difference between your product costs and the retail value.
