I thought some readers with orders hanging might be interested in this little snippet:
I got a call from my dealer today (specifically, the guy I ordered through at Crossroads Ford in Sanford NC). He said that he had received word that our order for a 2022 Maverick 2.0 EcoBoost FWD XLT has a "Nov 7 build date". He said I would get a Ford email. That has not arrived.
There have been rumblings things were picking up, and I did receive an email about a month ago from Ford asking for a confirmation of my email. They referenced, of course, our order.
Our original order was made a couple hours before all orders closed in late January 2022.
Some details are interesting in case some of you might, like me, wonder if anything would come of a January order, especially on the last day one could order:
1. We needed specific things in a vehicle. The Maverick fit those requirements and the price was OK. When we went to the dealer, but did not intend to make an order, except they said it was the last day to do it (and it was). We knew what we wanted, but I wanted my short wife to make sure she could be comfortable and get the visibility she needed. So, I requested contact with anyone within reason that could let us get in one (no one had one...we searched before coming). I said, basically, no ride and no check for my wife, then no order. They contacted a customer coming in that day, who was glad to do what the dealer could not. We made the order in the late afternoon. Ford confirmed it the same day.
2. Wait, wait, and wait.
3. I visited the dealer after a couple months. They suggested removing things from my order to make it "easier" on Ford production. I said no. It was not a pleasant visit. I followed with a letter for Ford (copy to dealer) citing the order and the price they agreed to. I explained that any big company really knows what is happening and can recommend somewhere in a quarter (3-month period) during 2022 when I might see a truck. They politely declined but affirmed our last order was still legit.
4. We received the emails many customers received that said little or nothing. I learned a long time ago not to disturb an existing contract that had been validated. If we did, then we alter the rules, and they can do things. So, the wait continued, and we deliberately said nothing, and did not contact the dealer again.
5. The recent call was a surprise, although there have been a very few tidbits that suggested Ford was trying to catch up before seriously launching the 2023. I took them with several grains of salt, but they pointed that the miry clay of production might just be kicking free. We shall see.
We still hold our confirmed order and price as listed on the order. Maybe we will get a confirmation from Ford. Maybe.
