I bought the Ford Bed Mat, essentially a thick rubber mat cut to fit the mavericks bed. I left it in the sun to unroll and installed it. 2 days later when I drove the Maverick, the interior smelled like the mat, so much so I opened all the windows the tonneau and rear door and left it to sit for the day.

Feels like the truck isn't well sealed to the outside from my interaction so something dead in the wheel well could certainly smell up the interior.

Had a C-Max that smelled all sorts of funky when the air was running. Thought it was something in the cabin or in the duct work but it turned out to be the cabin air filter

Ok do these Mavericks have a cabin air filter? I tried pulling down the glove box but it wouldn’t budge. 2022 hybrid lariat if that matters.

I put a call in to Ford Motor Company. The human on the line suggested I try an other than my selling dealer, as they (selling dealer) could not find a solution. For the record, I feel the selling dealer put in a valiant effort to find an answer. Honestly, when my dealer did not find a problem, I theorized winter weather and time would make it dissipate if it were a body. Wrong! (must be a dead elephant) I thought perhaps one of the giant dealers in the area may be a good choice, as they may have more sophisticated equipment, and by way of volume could have had a similar case. I urged the phone person to have a district Ford Representative meet me at the dealer. Back in the Dark Ages when I was a Lincoln Mercury Service Advisor, that was standard practice. It added a personal touch to Ford Motor Company, having a company human acting as a go between, consumer to dealer. Negative response... "Go to the dealer, and if they can not find an answer, they will contact the Tech hotline with suggestions".

My selling dealer was purchased by a large volume dealer 90 miles away from them. I put a call in to my salesman, and asked him to speak with their General Manager and Service Manager to run the mother store theory of mine by them. . I thought a trip to that store would be a good plan. Two days later, I got a call from the service manager who requested a second shot at it. My appointment is for Thursday.

In the words of another member of this forum, "stay tuned".

I was told once by a former employee of the now closed St Paul plant that the components made in Mexico and shipped to Minnesota would often have "extras" in the shipping barrels. The "extras" were tarantulas. I suppose the Mexican who packed the parts got no end of laughter imagining the look on the face of the Gringo who opened the container.

Maybe you have something "extra" from Ole' Mexico in there.

I suggest using a trained sniffing dog of some sort. Cadaver, truffles or whatever. I bet they would find it in a heartbeat.

If you installed a unknown brand of floor mats it is possible the odor is outgassing from them. I have had some rubber-y products from overseas that smelled for a month or so. Quickest way to cut the odor was to plant them in sunshine for a few days. The heat seemed to accelerate the outgassing so that after a few days it was more or less done, and the odor could be tolerated without too much trouble.
As I understand, the cabin air filter is accessed by removing the perforated plastic panel at the base of the windshield on the passenger side. Remove some clips, and lift off the shield. Air filter should be visible and replacement is just fishing(hopefully not fish) out the old and squishing the new one in place. More or less.

OK, that narrows it down! All that's needed now is for OP to check and see if some fish-and-chips-loving Brit had anything to do with assembling his Maverick. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Perhaps Ceviche is more likely (though Hermasillo isn't exactly coastal.)

I got called from the dealer today. "We found a leak". It is behind the glove box area, higher up. I'm told the carpet reeks, and will be replaced. I asked for pictures which I was told they would address tomorrow. They had a loaner reserved for me. which I picked up already.
