It's got "Jakes" and ppl still say it ain't a real truck

Seriously though engine braking has been a Semi Truck thing since 1965.
It Is a great version of a real truck! Half of truck owners actually want a big pillow status symbol anyway. I like the 2 inch tall sidewall, 15 inch wide tires on a lifted truck Woohoo!

And engine braking has been a thing with most cars for for about just as long. Every car I’ve owned (all 4 bangers) has had engine braking, that goes back to vehicles from the 1970’s.

Well yeah, but until electronic fuel injection systems implemented fuel cut in the late 80s into 90s, it was more like "forced idling", not so much of a braking effect. Of course on automatics you wouldn't feel it below about 40mph when the torque convertor lockup dropped out. Then this century with valve timing and lift controls, more options were on the table to turn it into actual braking rather than friction limited freewheeling, yeah it was pumping air a bit. So has been a bit gradual in getting more effective as braking.
