The ac cutout is based on engine vacuum, not duty cycle. Going uphill with your foot right into it, you have little or no engine vacuum. Since the ac is using 8 of your 88hp, its load shedding to get you up there.
8hp you think? That will bring the mpg's down a little.

It's pretty easy to test. I just did a little test today. I drove about 120 miles. It has been raining off and on all day, so temps were down low enough that cracking some windows kept things comfortable at highway speeds. I had driven one leg of this route in the Maverick when I picked up the truck on Monday. On that trip from the dealer I was getting around 42mpg according to the computer with AC on. Once I do a fill up I will be adjusting the computer to reflect reality, but for now that is what I am using. Today on the same route even with the rain and considerably more driving the computer is saying almost 51mpg with no AC on. There are lots of variables and one trip isn't enough to draw conclusions from, but it would appear the impact of AC is bigger than having windows cracked.

I drive this loop at least once a month so I will be keeping an eye on it and figure out the most efficient way to make this trip. It also matters that I have not yet figured out the best way to drive the Maverick for economy just yet. I still have a lot of learning yet for the best fuel economy.

I am sure if it is 100 degrees out that also impacts things in a very negative way also, but thankfully I usually don't have those conditions to tend to at my location normally.

I run a scanner app and have included ACCC in my gauge cluster which stands for A/C compressor current. I generally see 2-4 amps running through it although every now and then it will spike to 14.

At 220-240v you're taking 4-5 horsepower required to run the compressor at 14 amps. At 3-4 amps you're looking at around 1 horsepower sustained.

I'm in the SE USA and see temps in the 100* range while driving on the highway. My usual highway MPG is right around +/- 38 but I run 41-42 psi cold tire pressures.

I set my temp to LOW (min value) and fan speed of "3" and recirc ON and select both front and leg vents.

It's possible the 14 amp spike is due to the battery getting cooled down @The Real Maverick as I cannot figure out why every now and then it will spike.

If someone is using the A/C at max setting and high fan settings with recirc off I can see the 3-5 hp drag causing a reduction in MPG since sustained highway driving is only about 40 hp. If keeping it in the 2-4 amps range I don't see a huge impact tbh.
