Thanks for the interesting info and article. Ironic that my first new vehicle was one of those original Maverick replacements: a '78 2 door Fairmont Futura with the 302. A stoplight screamer that was pretty asthmatic once you got to 55. The 302 was a major factor in the purchase, got a whooping 13-17 MPG as I recall.

I have to say if there is one vehicle I wish I still had it was my 74 Maverick with a aluminum headed 306 I built. I couldnt even get it to my house where I live now, but I would park it up the hill at work if I had too. That car was all tire smoke, noise, and the type of attitiude that made you want to hang on for dear life.
