We've been looking at the Ford Maverick for months now, intrigued by Ford's move forward merging the E market with their truck market. Maybe a great starter vehicle for our new driver? She's been helping me repair our 92 Bronco (the easy stuff...replacing radiator, etc... but prob needs a trans rebuild.)

Today: Our 2013 C-MAX Energi had been an absolute delight for 8 years until our second transmission went out at 135k miles (replaced by Ford at no cost at 90k miles because TSB), but replacement transmission not covered by warranty now.

Excited by the Maverick! But also, a little gun-shy with this shiny new thing and Ford's commitment to long-term support for this platform.

Correction: A TSB is a troubleshooting document. It does not hold any warranty/recall status.

Your transmission would've been replaced under the 8 year/100,000 mile hybrid powertrain warranty. Because your eCVT was defective while under warranty, the dealer followed the TSB instructions to repair/replace.

Maverick has that same level of coverage for the hybrid-specific components.

A TSB, Technical Service Bulletin is a procedure to remedy a known condition. It might or might not be covered by Ford.

If you liked the C-Max, you’ll love the Maverick.

My friend and I both had a 2013 CMax. My friend also had the same transmission issue but it was at 124,000 miles so it was not covered for replacement.

I sold mine with lower mileage and bought a 2019 Hyundai Kona EV which I liked but not as much as my CMax. I’ve had my Maverick Lariat Hybrid since February and I love it so much that I have a reservation on a new one which will probably be 2023 or 2024. If you thought the CMax was fun to drive you will love the Maverick!

I have 2015 C-max that we now have 173000 miles on with a lifetime average of 41.7 mpg. In December last year Ford said we needed a new transmission but not under warranty, The $8500 repair quote was more than the car was worth so we have been driving it since with no problems except for a whining noise when the ICE is running. We are currently getting between 44 and 48 mpg still. We took delivery of our FE rapid red hybrid last Friday and are loving it. BTW Ford wouldn't take the C-max as a trade in.

Welcome!

As for being gun shy, my only thought is that unless you ordered a hybrid Mav already, odds are you'd be waiting until the 2024 model year to get one anyway. So you may already have the choice to wait made for you.

I'm trading my 2016 C-Max for a Maverick. Been waiting 10 months for it now but it's in production now. The Ford dealership offered a laughable $3,250 for trade in on the C-Max. I will be selling my car to Vroom, CarMax or Carvana when my truck comes in. I got lucky and was able to test drive 2 different Mavericks and loved driving it both times. I would encourage anyone to get a Maverick but it fits my needs (it's a pain to put a bale of hay in the back of my C-Max)

Our dealer quoted $6800 for replacement. Technician said he suspects the carrier bearing is coming apart based on the loud noise it makes when ICE is running. It hasn't affected drivability, but when at a drive-through and ICE is running it's hard to hear the clerk the noise is so loud. I've asked the dealer to give us a quote on trade-in value.

Yeah, frustrated that I wasn't more proactive about pre-ordering one just to get in line. The family was all over the Bronco announcement a couple years ago. We watched the live event and two of the kids kept hitting refresh on the pre-order page until the servers came back online and they reserved theirs. They finally took delivery this year. (If I didn't have another kid in college and yet another in high school, I would have done the same.)
