So how many of you wanted a GMC Syclone 30yrs ago? I was graduating high school and really wanted one. Too much money for a 20yr old, then marriage and kids made it impractical. Next they turned into collectors and they became too much money again.
The Maverick is like my 1991 GMC Syclone. I always wanted a sport truck but never was able to appreciate the live axle vehicles. Back in 1991 the Syclone sold for $26,000 which is the same price as my Maverick now. Yes the Syclone is quicker but in reality the Maverick is right where I want it for power, drivability and fuel economy. And as we all know the independent 4 wheel suspension far exceeds the refinement of the 1991 GMC. Plus the Maverick solved the impractical part of the equation with the crew cab design and 4000lb towing.
The only things I haved planned to bring my Maverick closer to my vision of a sport truck is the wheels and tires which I already have.
A Steeda rear sway bar which is on order (the three settings are perfect for New England, stiff summer and soft winter). No lowering for me
And in a year or two if Cobb makes a nice tune package I will highly consider that.
This will be my 1991 Syclone that it only took me 30yrs to get. Now if I could just convince my wife to let me get a second car to complement my Maverick, a 6spd version of my daughter's 2021 Kia Forte GT I would be complete. I miss shifting gears. I am not holding my breath on this one however.
The 1991 GMC Syclone Was Perfectly Impractical (roadandtrack.com)
