Ford is just like most large companies. Profitability is job one. Every decision made is to support that, whether short term or long term. They need fleets to support them during slow sales periods, so they build and sell them XL models at a discount to insure their ongoing support. When that job is complete, they want to build and sell the most profitable vehicles they can, XLT and Lariat models with highest content possible within supplier constraints.
