Nokian is a great brand especially winter tires. At the same time, you can’t really compare the performance of a pure winter tire like the R3 SUV’s. They’re literally designed solely for winter, compound and design are very different compared to a A/T tire that’s designed to focused on multiple uses and not just snow. For A/T that can perform well in multiple situations the Wildpeak trails aren’t bad especially at the price point. But for sure R3 SUV, if that’s your plan. But tbh when you get your maverick, will there be snow left ?Im in Toronto also and the first thing I'm getting for my truck is a set of Hakka R3 SUV's on steelies

The Wildpeak Trail isn’t a full A/T tire, it’s not thick spaced out blocks, it’s a compromise of A/T design but the center treads have been designed for normal roads and still provide enough siphoning for snow and dirt. It’s a hybrid if I had to classify it. Plus I go up to Muskoka and Algonquin alot. Need these kind of tires cause a lot of gravel roads, I’m sure you know. Don’t want rocks puncturing the sidewall or at least reduce the chances more.Yes it will be summer but I will have them ready. A/T tires are not ideal on dry or wet pavement or snow. Theyre great if you're an occasional light duty off-roader I guess.
They were designed as SUV tires IIRC. I think that type of design is a great compromise for people who are doing mostly road driving with some mild off road stuff, which should cover most mav owners. They're 3 peak rated as well. They are my first choice for the mav followed by the BFG trail terrains. Very similar tires. The Wildpeak Trail isn’t a full A/T tire, it’s not thick spaced out blocks, it’s a compromise of A/T design but the center treads have been designed for normal roads and still provide enough siphoning for snow and dirt. 99% of guys running A/T's in Toronto would be better served with a set of Michelin Defender LTX MS.I wanted to get BFG trail terrains but they are not sold in Canada OnTrio
The one reason I wanted A/T tires was because of the tougher sidewalls. I have a bad habit of clipping curbs and blowing tires. The continentals that come standard are pretty good and also probably all your average mav buyer really needs.99% of guys running A/T's in Toronto would be better served with a set of Michelin Defender LTX MS.
look into the Michilens when the time comes. I swapped out all my A/T's and much happier with everything from road noise to wet traction and even mpgThe one

They look good. For new englanders who deal with snow more often you need a very capable tire that still performs well on the highway and those michelins fill the bill. I have been using various continentals for years for sedan tires and the wet traction is outstanding for the price. Being a cheap ass, I preferred those to the michelins. Also I don't live in new england and don't have to deal with snow very often.look into the Michilens when the time comes.
